A Crafty Glimpse

Wednesday, 28 December 2016. I must admit that I don't know what makes a coleslaw versus a 'slaw'. It seems to have become fashionable to have 'slaw' on the menu but I don't know why we have dropped the 'cole' aspect of it. Needing something healthy with our leftover meat instead of all the heavy fried and roasted delights in which we have indulged I used the contents of the salad drawer to create a masterpiece. I know that pride is a sin but it was exceedingly tasty . everybody said so! For the pastry b...

A Crafty Glimpse: February 2016

https://craftyglimpse.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 23 February 2016. Beetroot and Carrot Burgers. It has been far too long since I have attempted to inspire . but this recipe was too good not to share. I am not normally a fan of true vegetarian meals although I love my veggies, but this quick and easy (albeit messy) recipe has to be tried. Delicious, nutritious and moreish! The recipe was one listed on Riverford. 250g carrot, grated weight. 3 eggs lightly beaten. 1 shallot or small onion, finely chopped. 3Tbsp dill, chopped. Transfer to a non-st...

Tuesday, 17 May 2016. Braised Fennel and Peppers. Colour and spice and all things nice. With spring in full flow I am getting lovely fennel in my vegetable box but was growing tired of the same old recipes. Luckily Riverford. Provide suggestions every week for using my veg so this week I tried something new. 1 Tbsp olive oil. 2 fennel bulbs, trimmed and cut into thick slices. 2 red peppers, sliced. 1 tsp coriander seeds, toasted and ground. 1 tsp fennel seeds, toasted and ground. 2 garlic cloves, crushed.

A Crafty Glimpse: September 2016

https://craftyglimpse.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, 29 September 2016. Time to go Sloe. It's that time of year when our hedgerows provide . if we know where to look. Unfortunately I was too late to catch the blackberries but luckily managed to find an abundance of sloes. I'm not overly worried about the blackberries . if it comes to a choice between fruit crumble or bottles of rich luscious alcohol I know which one will win. Raw sloe ingredient, early production and the finished article. If you can allow it to mature it is worth the wait. Prepar...

A Crafty Glimpse: September 2015

https://craftyglimpse.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 21 September 2015. Steaks with Blueberry and Gluhwein Sauce. This recipe is from the Lidl. Magazine using their ingredients. It uses the Deluxe frozen Reindeer steaks but I didn't have any today so used a beef fillet steak . it was just as good. If you get the chance to do it with reindeer I would recommend it as the meat is juicy, tender and tasty. I pack of Deluxe reindeer steaks (4 steaks). 1 pack of Oaklands blueberries. 2 glasses Lidl gluhwein (or make your own . see my previous post). 4 cup...

Creative Gran on the move. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. October 9, 2016. As Rosie has the equivalent of a hip replacement (a bit of body work) and cosies up for the winter, we head off to Northamptonshire with our friends for a week on a 66 foot barge. No problem I do camping; can’t be much different on a boat. Our barge is the Rufus Castle and sleeps six. We pick her up from Gayton Marina. And begin our journey along the Grand Union Canal. Heading for Nether Heyford,. When we moor...

Recently I have been doing a major declutter of my house, and been making some tough decisions of what stays and goes. As part of this I got rid of my bread machine and decided I was going to make everything by hand (as soon as I decided this mass panic occurred but I decided to stick by my decision). Conveniently the same day I popped down to 'The Urban Larder'. A lovely local shop) and blow me there was a sourdough making course happening the next week, so I signed up. Crafty crusade for gluten and dairy free food

Crafty crusade for gluten and dairy free food. Changing to a gluten and dairy free diet is not the easiest moment for an 18 year old. We are working very well on home prepared and cooked meals, but have really struggled whilst on holiday finding suitable snacks and food at takeaway outlets. It isn't difficult to produce a gluten AND dairy free solution, but we need food producers and suppliers to think differently when creating their offerings. Wednesday, 8 August 2012. Cornwall - let's see how you do?
