For now, we are in Nomos Chanion. If you are at Kastelli the Rodopos peninsula is to your left out of the harbour. If you are at the port of Souda Bay Chania is to your right. From the airport at Sternes then straight out of the gates, bear carefully left at the first fork and simply follow the road signs to Chania. For now, try pointing and left clicking Chania or Kolimbari, or depart to 'HOME'. Whatever you do, don't be distracted from the home page where direct links to the main pages are based.

When to Come

The usual time to come to Crete is between late April and late October. The main reason for this is often cited as the weather, but this is usually good at any time of the year. Crete averages around 300 days of sunshine every year, though there are no guarantees with the weather! One of our friends, a keen bird-watcher, arrived here a couple of years ago complete with his books, photographic gear and enthusiasm, but despite his daily early starts and late stops saw almost nothing at all in the bird line!

Getting To Crete

Getting here, literally, should pose no problems, excepting travel in winter. During the summer there are direct charter and scheduled flights; trains and coach services run directly to Athens from most European destinations. Take a look at the 'Athens Survival Guide' Matt Barratts' superb web site at. Whatever else you do, don't miss Athens if you can help it. But, whether you do or not, if you are not on a charter flight you will be headed for Crete either by scheduled 'plane or Boat.
