Monday, June 28, 2010. Reidar Opem - Trip Report. Diving at Buyat proved to be fantastic. Before lunch i used my wide angle lens around the pristine corals and after lunch i changed to macro lens for hunting the critters. The night dives proved to be the best i have ever experienced. Three hours south of Lembeh Island by speedboat, lies the hottest new dive destination in North Sulawesi, Buyat Bay. Protection from destructive fishing practices started with Newmont Mining Corporation which operated a gold mine in the nearby mountains from 1996 until 2004. Critters@Buyat is currently the only dive operator in the region. Started in 2008 by Critters@Lembeh. Founder Danny Charlton, we have now developed over 30 dive sites in the region since our initial surveys.
