Of course the main event was getting to Bar Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean but the day was chock full of other great sights and wonderful memories. The first WOW of the day was Fort Knox and the bridge over the Penobscot Narrows. As we rode around a bend in the road there it was! Finally we arrived in Bar Harbor!

After our great weather for camping in Amarillo, we headed South and East towards Houston and quickly returned to the hot weather that we had fled Savannah to escape. You can only delay the onset of summer for so long, I guess, and we got an extra month of enjoyable (and occasionally downright cold) days so we'll have to be content with that. We camped north of Shreveport Wednesday night at Cypress Black Bayou. 550 gallons of gas.

1x9 setup is fun. Hey, I just migrated my bike to a 1x9 setup, rode it a couple of times and I can tell you it's definitely cool! I just wanted to have a simpler bike, and I've been considering removing the granny and outer chainrings from my crankset for a while, but I just did it a few weeks ago. What has been preventing me for doing it earlier was the fear of not having enough gear range for XC, but I just realized it would be OK. I also went through this post.
