Making, breaking and riding bikes in Manchester
Cycle A 2 B: March 2012
http://cyclea2b.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 18 March 2012. A look back at Manchester's cycle infrastructure of 2011. Yep There it is. Manchester's finest achievement in cycle infrastructure of 2010/11. The invention of the cycle patch. The basis for the cycle patch is that they could be installed at 8m intervals (in reality double that*) without having to apply for the TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) that would be required for a normal (shitty) cycle lane. In other words - they are the lowest of the low. Box ticked. Move along. A great week...
Cycle A 2 B: Green Machine
http://cyclea2b.blogspot.com/2011/09/green-machine.html
Saturday, 24 September 2011. How to compensate for your crap bike lock? Paint it a horrific green in such an uncaring manner it would make even bikehacks blush. I especially like the matching green shopping bag-come saddle cover. Very fetching. No, honestly I do like it. Chavs will nick anything, but this will make them think twice at least. Room for improvement? It could have been candy pink maybe. Labels: manchester city centre. 13 November 2011 at 00:59. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Goodbye ibi...
Cycle A 2 B: How to kill a Nexus 8 Shifter
http://cyclea2b.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-kill-nexus-8-shifter.html
Saturday, 29 October 2011. How to kill a Nexus 8 Shifter. Step One: Ride the bike 5 days a week for a year or so. Step Two: Change gear roughly 1 million times per ride. Step Three: When it starts shifting badly between gears 7-8 decide "ah I'll look at it at the weekend". Step Four: Continue riding it whilst thinking "bugger this is getting worse". Step Five: Leave it in 6th and limp home because its completely knackered. Beat up old shifter. Shiny new shifter with cable already included and ready to fit.
Cycle A 2 B: March 2011
http://cyclea2b.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 28 March 2011. At the weekend we took 3 bikes, 3 doggies, 2 little'uns and a little'uns trailer to the Longdendale Trail. Which is a 6.6 mile long former railway line. Between Hadfield station and the Woodhead tunnels. Forming part of National cycle route 62. Among a card full of photos I did a little bit of filming too, probably boring, but I guess someone out there might type 'Longdendale Trail' into youtube one day :-). The trail runs alongside the reservoirs of Longdendale valley. All the gat...
Cycle A 2 B: August 2011
http://cyclea2b.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 24 August 2011. Police, Action, Denton Roundabout! Denton roundabout is the official Guinness World record holding roundabout for the greatest number of red light jumps by all forms of motorised traffic within a 24 hour period. Unfortunately the exact figure is unknown because they stopped counting shortly after 1 billion RLJ's when one of the counting team threw himself off the motorway bridge after going mad listening to 24hrs worth of beeping, tyre screeching, engine revving and swearing.

Up, down and around the Hierarchy of Provision | As Easy As Riding A Bike
https://aseasyasridingabike.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/up-down-and-around-the-hierarchy-of-provision
As Easy As Riding A Bike. Well it should be, shouldn't it? How sincere is the CTC’s support for quality segregation? Another Transport for London consultation – the A24 in Morden →. Up, down and around the Hierarchy of Provision. October 30, 2012. The Hierarchy of Provision – the official approach to improving roads and streets with the aim of enabling and encouraging cycling – has come in for a fair bit of stick recently, from a variety of sources, including this blog. One of the main issues, if not.
Middle Age Cyclist: July 2012
http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Thursday, 12 July 2012. So, I was cycling home after the last of three very busy, long days at work (and I mean longs days of 13.5 hrs! Looking forward to seeing my wife and having a wee dram. The weather was dry and warm, the traffic was very light and it was still daylight despite the time of 21.00hrs. I was wearing a bright red cycling jersey and had my lights on. What could go wrong? I shouted in a Victor Meldrew type way. "How could you not see me? By now peopl...

Middle Age Cyclist: Cycling Back To Happiness
http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2013/12/cycling-back-to-happiness.html
The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Thursday, 12 December 2013. Cycling Back To Happiness. Thought this might be worth sharing. Apologies if you've already read it elsewhere. Early on in 2013 I began to feel a bit down never really having suffered with personal mental health issues before. I shrugged it off as I took delivery of my new bike, the days lengthened and I prepared for the 1400km London-Edinburgh-London. Audax (LEL) at the end of July. Come October, LEL and Super Randonneur. A good few year...

The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Monday, 14 January 2013. LEL Prep - Weeks 1-2. Things have not got off to a good start but, hey ho, early days yet. Current distance for 2013: 125 miles. Friday, 11 January 2013. After a long dormant period I've decided to come back to my blog, dust off the cobwebs and settle down to entertain/bore you a little more. "Why does he want to do that? I hear you mutter. Well, I feel I've got something actually worth blogging about that some people might. UK cycle commute...
Middle Age Cyclist: February 2013
http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Monday, 4 February 2013. LEL Prep - Weeks 3-5. So my wife collected me from a pub a few whiskys later. The next day I hobbled into work (A&E) and got an XR of the leg. No bony changes found - PHEW! The pain also changed in nature and became more of a band like pain down the outer thigh so probably muscular in origin. Painkillers helped and within 3 days I was walking almost normally. I didn't ride the bike for 5 days though! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cycle A 2 B.

Cycle a bike
Hello and welcome to Cycle a Bike blog, we are Jonny and Radka. In January 2011 we made the spontaneous decision to take time off work and do some travelling. We both love cycling, and agreed pretty much immediately when Jonny suggested we should cycle as much as possible. Carrying everything to survive and travelling by bike gives us the liberation to explore where we like and removes us from our daily worries. Freedom, living outdoors and socialising with local people is our desire.
