Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Theatrics and Self-Promotion: Piazza Navona and Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers. History of the Piazza. Borromini on the other hand was a fiery and turbulent man whose strength was architecture. His initial concept of the Fountain of the Four Rivers has been criticized so severely as being uninspired that some art historians believe that this could not have been the work of such an incredible artist. The Fountain of the Four Rivers. The bearded Danube twists to hold the ...

Rome: 3/11 Last Day with the Group
http://sijia-rome.blogspot.com/2010/03/311-last-day-with-group.html
Thursday, March 11, 2010. 3/11 Last Day with the Group. Carisa and I died of laughter. After Giulia picked her up, she held on to Giulia for dear life, shouting “Giulia you’re going to drop me! Once she pointed that out, I suggested walking to the right side corner, where there was a blind spot the police could not see. We discreetly walked over, separately. Teo had my camera, and was ready to go. After contemplating for a minute, I slid into the fountain! This also means that we are really leaving…...

Rome: 2/25-2/26 NAPLES!!!
http://sijia-rome.blogspot.com/2010/03/225-226-naples.html
Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Hundreds of people were striking, causing traffic to stop for miles and miles. People would hold banners directly in front of buses to stop its route; we had to walk to our hostel. Walking on the streets, I noticed the differences in people (Neapolitans are less well dressed), differences in prices (things were so cheap! To Di Matteo, a famous Neapolitan pizza restaurant. Now, you have to understand how excited I was to eat the pizza in Naples, the creator of Pizza! The funniest t...

Lauren in Rome: January 2010
http://laurenmarriott.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 25, 2010. Questions for Amara Lakhous, author of Clash of Civilizations. What's with the wailing? Is it simply howling like a wolf (hearkening back to the Romulus and Remus tale) or is there more to it? Would it be a fair interpretation to say that Amadeo is the most "Roman" or the most "Italian" character in the book, despite his being an immigrant? Why did you feel the need to write this story? Was there a real life incident or catalyst that you drew the inspiration from? It wasn’...

It was also nearby where Jewish and Syrian communities established their centers of worship. In the 13 th. Century, this area was incorporated into the city and became the 13 th. Lauren in Rome: Valentines & the Vatican
http://laurenmarriott.blogspot.com/2010/02/valentines-vatican.html
Friday, February 19, 2010. Valentines and the Vatican. This week in Rome has been truly incredible. Sunday morning came and because my boy was thousands of miles away, I exchanged gifts with my other Valentine Erika. I bought her pink tulips from the market outside and she bought me a giant brick of dark chocolate. After that we walked across the city where I got my first glimpse of the Trevi Fountain. It's. All in all, it was probably one of the most memorable and romantic Valentine's Days I'll ever have.

Lauren in Rome: March 2010

Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Writing Assignment 10: Photographic Memories. But what makes that photo stand out in my mind beyond the sheer beauty of that sleepy seaside paradise was the struggle to get there and the story behind that photo. Who wants to climb up a God damned mountain? Wednesday, March 10, 2010. This is going to change every day that I keep working on it and thinking about it, but it just makes me feel better to have it up.). I’ve had a hard time trying to collect my thoughts and sift...

Rome: February 2010
http://sijia-rome.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 24, 2010. A day of walking around with Gregory Smith! We took a bus then a long metro ride to Rome’s peripheries, to a part called Pietralata. Apparently this area is famous for its public housing constructed in the 40s. It’s an interesting neighborhood with its working class and middle class residents. The most interesting thing I saw in town was an ugly church, which Opus Dei (Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code. The Opus Dei Church. 2/24 Lisa took us to a special, 400. Whew, we almost missed...

Rome: Rione Project Reflection: Ponte
http://sijia-rome.blogspot.com/2010/03/rione-project-reflection-ponte.html
Monday, March 1, 2010. Rione Project Reflection: Ponte. Apart from the churches, modern Ponte offers great dining and shopping experience. As I have mentioned earlier, my favorite street (Via Coronari; used to be a main pilgrimage route) offers tons of unique art you wouldn’t find anywhere else. It is also never crowded here. What a great shopping experience, finding one-of-a-kind pieces and never having to compete for them! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View of Campo de' Fiori. WA#10: Image of Rome.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010. 2/27-2/28 Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, and the AMALFIE Coast! When we got to Pompeii we found out that the cab ride to Mt. Vesuvius was only a euro more than taking the bus there, so we went for it. Man oh man was that the ride of my life! 8220;He’s my colleague, poor guy, he’s so stupid. People are just born stupid. If you don’t speak English, you are stupid.”. 8220;I don’t like reserved people. Life is short; always try, and if it doesn’t work out, move on! 8221; (He meant make love).
