Mulleins and Skippers | Daisies and Dandelions
https://daisiesanddandelions.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/mulleins-and-skippers
Exploring the natural world around us. Hebrides and Ben Nevis. June 13, 2011. Yesterday, walking down an overgrown track in Norfolk I saw lots of a furry, orange butterfly I couldn’t name. They turned out to be Large Skippers. They have a big body, and are quite fuzzy all over. Their wings sit as a moth’s do or similarly, with the lower wing furled beneath the upper. Their antennae are stripy, black and yellow. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. This entry was posted in Butterflies. Create a free ...

Exploring the natural world around us. Hebrides and Ben Nevis →. August 26, 2010. We went on a trip to Scotland. We went to Skye, then I changed holiday crew and went on up the west coast to the far north accompanied by my sister. To Tongue. Cape Wrath. The trip took 11 days. We were camping in the van. It was bloody fantastic. And the Midge! Scotland is beautiful. I forget, and then on driving down Glen Coe rediscover it all over again, and wonder why I ever go anywhere else. Exploring the natural world around us. Mulleins and Skippers →. Hebrides and Ben Nevis. February 8, 2011. I was back up in Scotland for a few days last week and it was wonderful as ever. We took the Caledonian Sleeper which is the night train that pulls out from Euston at 8.50pm each evening, and deposited us in Fort William a little after 9am. We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather; a January holiday to Scotland is a gamble but we drew aces. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. Enter your e...

Exploring the natural world around us. Bunny Old Wood on a beautiful Sunday. Derbyshire Dales →. July 4, 2010. This summer wild flowers have been catching my eye. I think it’s since I went on a walk with my sister in Gloucestershire in early May. Her knowledge and interest in the little colourful things round our feet nudged mine, and so they’ve just stood out a little bit more that normal. And it’s a member of the Cranesbill family, perhaps unsurprisingly. View all posts by daisiesanddandelions →. You a...

Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? In the Land of Milk and Honey: Mornings. June 10, 2012. The belated beginnings of clipped memories from the Himalayan Permaculture Centre, in Surket District. For friends in the UK we are home, and it would be lovely to see you all! The dark mud den room of uneven walls is plastered with now a desiccating mud, clay and cow dung mix reminds me of streaked webs in Mum’s batiks. I am perched on the edge of a squat clay stove. Why Overland? | wildappleseeds
https://wildappleseeds.wordpress.com/why-overland
Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? Our initial, overriding reason was ecological. Flying is one of the worst things an individual can do to contribute to climate change. Not only is it insanely energy intensive, but t he total warming effect of the carbon emitted by planes (in the air) is 2.7 times greater than at ground level. Because the altitude amplifies the radiative effect. We’ve watched the landscape morph from the Russian grasslands to Kazak deserts, from Sichuan green hillsides...

Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? From the Bureaucracy of India into the Dancing Foothills. April 25, 2012. I watched her for a while as she stared across at the army defiantly. I dug out three bananas from out backpack and took them over to her, she smiled when I wished her Ap ka din achcha ho. Minutes later, that same soldier carried a bundle of fried foods balled up in newspaper to the wet hermit crab, and gently offered it. Climbing into the land of milk and honey. As we walked, Bh...

Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? April 21, 2012. From Shillong it was our aim to get to the village of Mewlynnong a further 2 hours south and only a short walk from the Bangladeshi border. A chance internet search of ‘living root bridges’ had thrown up the blog of a British photographer, Tim Allen. We decided to stay at the community guest house that consisted of four buildings built exclusively from bamboo and thatch, each building balancing on stilts and overhanging a precipitous dr...

Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? Guwahati and the Case of the Pigmy Hog. April 21, 2012. The center had been established by a truly inspiring couple, Nandita and Gutam, back in the mid 90s. Nandita was out-of-town at the time but had assured us that her husband would be willing to show us around and talk us through the work that they were doing through their NGO – Eco-systems. Such conditions also proved good for growing other more anthropocentric grass species including wheat and ric...

Tales from our overland adventure. What we’re up to? Navdanya: An Early Departure. March 21, 2012. So perhaps that is one of the most important lessons that I’ve taken from Navdanya: whilst it is important to acknowledge the value of old knowledge, traditions and skills, like everything else, modern science included, it’s important to not blindly accept Tradition as best. Below is an edited interview I conducted with the wonderful Marilyn and Chris, a wicked wife and husband team and co-founders of the Hummingbird Project. They are traveling around the world working with small farms and communities spreading clever permacultural techniques and teaching about the wonders of the Soil Food Web. Could you please explain what the Soil Food Web is? Marilyn: The SFW is important because the mi...

daisies and damask | a year in color
A year in color. July 24, 2014. I hate to admit it, but I am now ruined for all other forests. As much as I will always adore Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, those lush forests (as seen here. Still can’t compare. There is just something about standing among the Giants (some over 2,000 years old) that makes me feel insignificant yet honored all at the same time. July 14, 2014. When I think about the color red, one of the first things that comes to mind is my favorite scene from. Red: a world about to dawn!
Daisies and Damselflies | The sweet things in life.
The sweet things in life. December 4, 2017. Dr Anna Boyd ND. In the grey of deep fall, when the rain and clouds seem never ending though have just begun, it’s nice to find some vibrant reminders that life and color are still there. Mosses, herbs and Camelia sinensis are my reminders today. June 24, 2017. Dr Anna Boyd ND. Trying to capture the elusive sand shrimp. Burrowing to hide from the giants. The edge of the cove, and the perfect place to look for tide pools and rock wall inhabitants. October 2, 2016.

A blog about faith, courage, and hope. Thursday, August 11, 2016. There and Back Again A Canadian Holiday (part 1). The Bumper's favorite view. We left early, 5:30 am , on Thursday morning we were all too excited to sleep, which was just as well since the Bumper had a little trouble popping her ears once the plane took off and I had t8 o give her chewing gum to help teach her how. Unfortunately the Bumper persisted in kicking the seat in front of her for the entire flight. I was so embarrassed! I think f...

My blog | Just another WordPress site
May 12, 2014. Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging! Some little rules about design. April 16, 2014. In design, it’s what’s inside that counts. But how can that be if we just used the standard sdk? It’s beautiful looks comes from it’s function. It’s red and shiny because you need to see it properly! The design of a feature, or a product isn’t finished when it works, but it’s finished when it makes people feel good. Good design is about removing, not adding.
