La Vida Dominicana: July 2011

6 weeks of Immersion in the Dominican Republic. Monday, July 25, 2011. Well too much has happened since my last post, so I’ll just touch on some of the main things…or at least the things I remember. I eventually returned safe and sound, and I didn’t feel sick for more than an hour or two. When we arrived, there were already about 200 people waiting outside (the clinic was set up inside a school). The village didn’t even look big enough to have that many people! One of the rooms at the clinic. On Saturday...
La Vida Dominicana: Wrapping Up
http://daninthedominican.blogspot.com/2011/08/wrapping-up.html
6 weeks of Immersion in the Dominican Republic. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Well, my flights went well yesterday and I arrived safely back in Detroit. I don't really feel like I'm back home yet. But at the same time, I feel like I just left for the Dominican yesterday. It went by way too fast. Ok- enough clichés. My class in the kitchen of the Medical Clinic. My class at the school (CCED). I didn't really get any good pictures of impoverished homes, but here is a pic of one of the villages we stopped at.

La Vida Dominicana: June 2011
http://daninthedominican.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
6 weeks of Immersion in the Dominican Republic. Monday, June 27, 2011. Last day of VBS). Yesterday I went to baseball practice with my “brothers,” Jesús and Luis. 6 teams practiced at the same time on one field! I’m sure many of you have heard that the sport of choice here in the DR is baseball, but, I can guarantee. Here you play softball. And you get smoked in the process. In fact, soccer is actually only the 3. Most popular sport here (basketball takes runner-up). Heavy Traffic in Santo Domingo. Adria...

An American Werewolf in Thailand | Pictures, thoughts and rants about my time in Thailand
An American Werewolf in Thailand. Pictures, thoughts and rants about my time in Thailand. Loi Krathong and Lantern Festival 2014 Chiang Mai. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m racking up some serious karma points with all these lanterns and floats. And I even scooped up a spider in a cup and put him outside instead of stepping on him. December 8, 2014. December 9, 2014. Loi Krathong and Lantern Festival 2014 Chiang Mai. Cambodia and the temples of Angkor. Oh My Buddha, Dan and Val went to Sukhothai! Build a w...
Dan in the Cloud – A blog of web development, technology and self-education.
Dan in the Cloud. A blog of web development, technology and self-education. Creating graphics and images for retina displays. Recently I redeveloped an old site with a fresh, mobile-friendly design. While doing so, I found that many of the older image assets didn’t look quite as good as they otherwise might on mobile devices. After doing some investigating, I found out that images shown at their native resolution on a high-resolution display actually get scaled up to maintain their size. February 13, 2016.
Putting The D In Democracy Since 1987...
Putting The D In Democracy Since 1987. The Chronicles Of One Graduate Student's Journey Through The Nation's Capitol. Monday, August 31, 2009. So the beginning of my D.C. experience is turning out to be much more interesting than I ever thought it would be. After taking Amtrak across the country (yes, Amtrak) to Chicago, we missed our connection to D.C. by one minute. Literally. One minute. But it ended up being ok! Oh man what an entrance to D.C. Until next time,. Posted by D. Hess. Monday, June 8, 2009.

Dan in the Kitchen
Dan in the Kitchen. The place where you can follow the adventures of my meals. Thursday, February 21, 2013. In an attempt to work more fish into our diets we came across a recipe on the back of the packet. Of lemon pepper tuna that I had a coupon for. Fish tacos are nothing new but I never thought to. Use canned tuna to make them. This is an extremely fast recipe that requires no cooking. So if. You can’t cook you can’t use that reason to not try and make this easy dish. 4 6" flour or corn tortillas.
Dan In The Life
Wednesday, 27 August 2014. Getting into a country is tougher than I thought. Or rather, getting there is easy, staying is hard. I decided to stay in Canada to be with my girlfriend almost exactly one year ago. Since then, I've had to go back to work to save money so visit again because a tourist visa only allows a six month stay. Yes, it's a ball ache. Apply for a visa? Here's how my experience of that has gone so far:. You want to work in a new country. You need a Visa. You need a job offer. I've met ot...
