Sunday, January 28, 2007. A girlfriend and her boyfriend eating lunch at home. The silent moments were interesting to me. had this been a conversation with a less intimate individual, the 14 second silence that i documented might have been uncomfortable, but i don't recall feeling awkward or noticing the silences until i replayed the conversation. in our case, silence is accepted. 3 minutes of lunch. Inflection idicates a question here, although it’s not really a question. Speaker seems to be checking for understanding from her audience since we looked at her inquisitively, wondering to what she was referring). Sally: Oh, I think I got that. Jennifer: Yeah, it was. (said simultaneously with Sally). J: I started it, but I stopped about half way through and didn’t finish.

Wednesday, March 21, 2007. I thought Storey's article was also interesting in the way that it explores the emotional connections between viewers and programs. It said that TV wasn't just an escape but an outlet for people's emotions and a way for them to connect emotionally to something in a safe way. I don't enjoy soap operas much myself, but I can see this explanation for why people like them so much. Monday, March 19, 2007.
