Orality, Literacy and Technology: January 2007

http://zumazoch.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Orality, Literacy and Technology. Saturday, January 27, 2007. This is a conversation which took place between five 4th grade students and myself during lunch one day. We were sitting around a large table together and were the only ones in the room. Four of the students are bilingual and speak both Spanish and English and one student is a monolingual English speaker. Note: This was not the beginning of the conversation.]. Danielle: You mean when you eat the heart? Daniel R.: Uggh. Danielle: I know. Ms...

Orality, Literacy and Technology: Marxism & Reading Education

http://zumazoch.blogspot.com/2007/03/marxism-reading-education.html

Orality, Literacy and Technology. Sunday, March 18, 2007. Marxism and Reading Education. It seems that if reading instruction is going to be reduced to a commercial reading program, then we don't need to teach teachers how to teach reading. Universities no longer need to offer courses on reading because all that's expected is for teachers to follow a script. (This is of course RIDICULOUS! In addition, why have any reading instruction from real books when kids are going to have to pass a test? I am a doct...

Orality, Literacy and Technology. Sunday, March 25, 2007. Isn't our emotional attachement to such stories because of our love/dislike of the characters? Sunday, March 18, 2007. Marxism and Reading Education. In addition, why have any reading instruction from real books when kids are going to have to pass a test? Why not just teach kids to read from test-like materials all day long? Afterall, they just have to pass a test, right? Again, totally RIDICULOUS! And deal with it everyday in the classroom! One o...

Danny's Paradise Found: March 2007

http://dannyaustin.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 25, 2007. TV Programs as Smartness Boosters. However, while I welcome Johnson’s proposition with open arms in terms of dramas and reality programs boosting viewers’ smartness, a major concern has come to present itself as I read this article. That is, the potential negative impact on viewers might override the cognitive benefits these programs have to offer. Although dramas like. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This video clip comes from. With their friendly plots scattered with surprise...

Sunday, April 22, 2007. The death of print. So she imagines these fantasies because she's a bookophile. one day when students have to go to a museum to see what a book is, a day when their teachers will say, "kids, these are what WE had to read out of," they will wonder how people ever read text that way and can't imagine reading books in any other way but through some digitized medium. wonderings by wagamama: January 2007

http://wagamamawizard.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 28, 2007. A girlfriend and her boyfriend eating lunch at home. The silent moments were interesting to me. had this been a conversation with a less intimate individual, the 14 second silence that i documented might have been uncomfortable, but i don't recall feeling awkward or noticing the silences until i replayed the conversation. in our case, silence is accepted. 3 minutes of lunch. Here's a 3 minute piece of lunch conversation yesterday. N: It’s a bento. A: this is how I grew up. I tho...

Wednesday, March 21, 2007. I thought Storey's article was also interesting in the way that it explores the emotional connections between viewers and programs. It said that TV wasn't just an escape but an outlet for people's emotions and a way for them to connect emotionally to something in a safe way. I don't enjoy soap operas much myself, but I can see this explanation for why people like them so much. Monday, March 19, 2007. linguistique: World on Paper, Ch 1-5

http://kurstinblue.blogspot.com/2007/02/world-on-paper-ch-1-5.html

Shine like fire that mirrors nothing". Saturday, February 10, 2007. World on Paper, Ch 1-5. If I'm wrapping my head around this correctly, Olson is saying that reading and writing in and of themselves are not what make us literate; rather, it is the attempt to learn how to read and write and the ways in which we do read and write that makes us literate. Is that write? Town criers would be pretty cool! Even for only maybe once a week, just for a change! February 12, 2007 at 1:51 PM. You write very well.
