Darley Dale Wildlife: Northern Eggar - Beeley Moor
http://darleydalewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/northern-eggar-beeley-moor.html
Monday, 13 July 2015. Northern Eggar - Beeley Moor. The last of the big three (Emperor, Fox and Northern Eggar) moorland moths is on the wing now. Ken came across this female Northern Eggar yesterday evening. The moth is unusual in that some of the population have a one year cycle whilst others have a two year cycle with the larvae overwintering as a small caterpillar. This split has been noted amongst larvae from the same brood. Northern Eggar - female (c. Ken Smith). Labels: 1637 Northern Eggar. Very p...
Darley Dale Wildlife: Wood Pigeon - adult and juvenile
http://darleydalewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/wood-pigeon-adult-and-juvenile.html
Monday, 20 July 2015. Wood Pigeon - adult and juvenile. Interesting behaviour from this juvenile Wood Pigeon trying to get food from the adult, as soon as it could get close enough to the adult it put its wing around it so that it wasn't easy for the adult to then move away. Darley Dale Wildlife: Barred Carpet - Via Gellia
http://darleydalewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/barred-carpet-via-gellia.html
Friday, 17 July 2015. Barred Carpet - Via Gellia. The Barred Carpet is one of the rarest resident moths in the County and Via Gellia is one of the few places where it can be seen. I've mentioned in past posts the difficulty of catching a fresh example of the Barred Carpet but Simon caught this one earlier this week which is one of the best I've seen. http://darleydalewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/red-kite-juvenile-flash-lane.html
Saturday, 25 July 2015. Red Kite juvenile - Flash Lane. A superb juvenile Red Kite flew over Flash Lane this morning and it was in sunshine for a change. This bird will have fledged during July so it would be very interesting to know how far it has flown from its nest. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Darley Dale Wildlife: Marbled White - Clough Wood update
http://darleydalewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/marbled-white-clough-wood-update.html
Sunday, 12 July 2015. Marbled White - Clough Wood update. I had a call from Alan Stewartson yesterday who had visited Clough Wood and seen at least three but possibly five Marbled White. Although the conditions were not ideal this morning with a heavily overcast sky I went back and saw four Marbled White in the air at the same time so four or five looks like the current estimate. 13 July 2015 at 17:54. Lovely shot Andy, but also very interesting. 13 July 2015 at 18:20. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Derwent Valley Birder: Red-throated Pipit
http://daven-belperbirdersblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/red-throated-pipit.html
Monday, 4 May 2015. Within a few minutes we were on the bird.and what a bird. I always thought that if and when I do see a Red-throated Pipit it will be in autumn and will be either a juvenile or a drab adult. But this is in full summer plumage and what a smart bird it was. We watched it for a while happily feeding and totally undeterred by the increasing crowd. 4 May 2015 at 21:25. Bloody hell whats up with clive going on a twitch haha. 6 May 2015 at 12:32. Derwent Valley Birder: Bittern
http://daven-belperbirdersblog.blogspot.com/2015/02/bittern.html
Thursday, 26 February 2015. Still no Barn Owl and it's been over a week now since it's been seen. A sure sign that spring is almost upon us is the fact there was only 1 Goosander that came into roost. Although there was 23 Tufties. A number I have had several times recently. An impressive 18 Gadwall were spread around the pools which shows the importance of Wyver for this species. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventures in an empty corner. Derwent Valley Birder: Monday visit to Wyver
http://daven-belperbirdersblog.blogspot.com/2015/02/today-down-wyver.html
Tuesday, 24 February 2015. Monday visit to Wyver. A cold and blustery day today saw me again down Wyver. The male Stonechat which I recently photographed is still present having been elusive for a few days. Wigeon have been increasing steadily of late into the low 60's but today I could only muster 16. Teal numbers however which have been quite low lately peaked at 48 today. One of which I managed to photograph. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventures in an empty corner. Darley Dale Wildlife
Monday, 19 March 2018. Whooper Swans heading back North. A call from Ken this morning alerted me to a herd of Whooper Swans flying up the Derwent valley over Matlock. I missed them in Darley Dale so they may have crossed towards the moors over Halldale Wood. These birds will most likely be heading back to Iceland to breed. Whooper Swans (photo © Ken Smith). Sunday, 11 March 2018. The lone Pink-footed Goose was still present with the Canada Goose flock and at least 30 Mandarin along the river. Although th...

Darley Days
Living at the Beach. Home Sweet Home - SOLD. Thursday, October 7, 2010. The Tooth Fairy visited Andrew twice within our first five days here in Florida. Andrew wanted to lose his second tooth a "cool" way. He considered tying one end of a string to his tooth and the other end to a rock or the dog or something interesting like that, but then he decided he'd rather lose his tooth in a more controlled environment. Here's what he decided:. One happy boy missing his two front teeth. Mission accomplished.

The local's perspective on every eatery in Manly. Whitewater : it fit the mould. Was on First Table. 8216;s roster. Whitewater has the beach front location, crisp but classic interior and a modern Australian menu, it was the perfect combination for our ‘touristy dinner’ with our international visitor. Plus, not only would we get 50% off our meal but we would be ticking another eatery off our list. And one that we might not have made it to in awhile as just the two of us with baby in tow.
