Saturday, January 19, 2013. Working for nothing- Part 3. If you close down your manufacturing base, where is your R&D going to take place? Those firms that shut their factories and gave their manufacturing processes and secrets to Asian firms may yet regret that decision. The other unintended consequence of the digiti...

Thursday, March 22, 2012. Is home ownership a barrier to economic recovery? I've been doing a fair bit of research into my family history. It has involved poring over census records trying to trace my ancestors. You notice all sorts of entries in passing and this one caught my eye:. Trelissick Terrace, Hayle. Later th...

Dave Clemo's World of Work: Belt up
http://dave-beentheredonethat.blogspot.com/2012/02/belt-up.html
Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Friday, 24 February 2012. Every now and then I'm speaking to someone or watching the TV and something triggers a memory. I honestly thought I'd written down every job I'd done, but no, there's more. I worked in two different belt factories over the years. Both were temp jobs, lasting just a few days while the firm got a large order out. Both were in small factories employing just a few staff. Dave Clemo-...

Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Friday, 17 June 2011. I've just been reading back through the posts and realised I hadn't written about the time I worked for a clothing charity. You know the sort- they put a bag through your letterbox and ask you to fill it with your unwanted clothing and leave it out a couple of days later. And then drive to the town where we'd be working. There were more sheep than houses to be honest. I expect that ...

Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Sunday, 30 May 2010. Working for the Government -part two. Reed had to take up my references, but I argued that I was already working at the EA anyway, and had been for some weeks, so why shouldn't I continue to work there? Then there was the small matter of the deadline for uploading all the data, the reason why I was engaged in the first place. So much for government targets. One is to stop doing your ...

Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Tuesday, 29 June 2010. One of the many jobs I did in the late 90s was to drive a furniture lorry. I passed my driving test in the 70s, and my licence allowed me to drive any vehicle up to 7 1/2 ton without any extra training. These days you have to go on a training course. Upon arrival at the Waste Transfer Station (to give it its proper title) I'd get the vehicle weighed and drive up the ramp to unload ...

Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Tuesday, 21 December 2010. No I'm not about to go back to temping. It's just that I've had a couple of conversations recently that tell me I wouldn't be able to get a job even if I wanted to. I mentioned working at Gilson's Bakery. She had friends there. It was almost all Polish staffed now. So I will have to consider learning Polish if I want to work in our local food production factories.

Dave Clemo's World of Work. This is an account of the jobs I've done down the last forty or so years. Saturday, 3 December 2011. No I hadn't heard of it either until I got the call to go work there a few years ago. In the midst of all this Victorian street layout a chemical company set up to make this wax polish and carried on quietly for many years. Eventually the rise of the health and safety brigade, plus the inconvenience of bringing lorries into residential areas began to tell, and the firm move...

The Dave Clemo Band Blog
Monday, 2 December 2013. This album was almost completed on time! We decided to spend the months of July and August recording the album, with the intention of getting it manufactured when we went on our summer break at the end of August. We finally sent the master copy and artwork off in mid-November and copies are now winging their way to radio stations and magazines across the UK. This is my first release in "digipack" format and I think it looks great (and sounds great too! Here's the back cover.

Dave Clemo's Family Tree
Dave Clemo's Family Tree. Sunday, 3 December 2017. The Vollmers and the Leugs. Since I last posted on this blog . I'm making great progress on writing a book about my family history, and making some interesting discoveries along the way. I was contacted by a member of the Harvey family who kindly sent a newspaper cutting about a wedding between Minna Harvey and Ernst Jacobi at Penzance in 1883. I found a single reference to a possible link between the Leugs and the Vollmers. A few years ago I received a ...
