Building a Farr 3.7. Back at it →. May 9, 2015 · 11:03 pm. I have been tardy. Not with the boat work but with writing. In contrast to the impression this blog gives, we have made some progress over the past weeks. All the frames are now doubled up where needed. The transom was still a bit more work, as doublers for the side decks needed to be shaped and mounted as well. First glueing steps for transom doubler. Back at it →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Building a Farr 3.7. Getting back to it. →. August 6, 2015 · 4:20 pm. It seemed that we were close to having the frames finished once all the doublers were added. As it turns out, that was a very naïve idea. The sealing and coating of the frames took more time than we had anticipated. We had both underestimated how rough plywood after the first epoxy coat is and the amount of sanding that is needed to smooth this out at least a bit. But first things first:. A few small things at the end:. Finally, I can&...

Building a Farr 3.7. Procrastinating … kind of. First but small error. →. April 13, 2015 · 5:47 pm. Oh my, it really has been a while. We’ve been doing some small things here and there but last weekend finally got down to put some time into the build again. D did a great job on the scroll saw and I finished off the lower edge of the doubler with the spokeshave. The upper edge will be faired once it is glued to the frame. The boat mascot is closely observing the progress…. Procrastinating … kind of. Looks...

Building a Farr 3.7. When we initially had the idea of building a dinghy we realized that there would be quite a bit of things to learn. While each of us had a bit of experience in different skills that would come in handy, we were missing several of the basics. Of course “learning by doing” is what this project is all about, so that was just fine. Below I list the major resources we used. I cannot recommend The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction. Foils, rig, etc. Are my personal heros on this front!

Building a Farr 3.7. September 18, 2016 · 6:01 pm. Getting back to it. The past year has brought many distractions from the Farr building. Once it was clear that we would be moving out of London (yay! We finished the girder, but stopped the build at that point, so that the project could be comfortably moved. Now, our boat kit has been relocated and the new ‘workshop’ (still a garage, but with water and power this time) is being set up. There is a ton of material out there to help. I did not follow an...

Building a Farr 3.7. We (Daniela and Chris) are building a small sail boat. In this blog we write about our progress, discoveries on the way, and the (certain to occur) mishaps. Why build a dinghy? Why a Farr 3.7. We have a double hander. So a single hander seemed to make sense. It needs to be a boat suited for first time builders and it has to be a boat that is fun to sail. We also looked at the Streaker and the Haldron, but in the end the Farr seemed to be the ideal first project. 2 responses to “.
