Sharing the Table, Dinner Parties for Charity

http://www.davidschiller.com/sharing-the-table/2012/12/sharing-the-table-sharing-the-music

Sharing the Table, Sharing the Music. Post no. 16. People were bound to be in a good mood. This hodgepodge of holidays influenced our menu planning. We started with the obvious latkes but wanted something a little more surprising, and veered sharply away from Europe and into the melting pot of the Middle East, starting with one recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi’s new cookbook, Jerusalem. Deviled Eggs Tears of the Prophet Cocktail. Spicy Beet, Leek and Walnut Salad. Chicken Tagine over Couscous with Harissa Oil.

What Is It About Ice Cream? Post no. 18. Picture above, staged and ready to go, part of a dozen “One Night in Bangkok” Sundaes, the overall idea and recipes courtesy of our dessert secret weapon,. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home. Or demurely protest,. Oh, none for me, thanks…. Not very surprising, of course, but so handy when menu-planning. There’s another lesson too, to be learned from Jeni Britton Bauer, David Lebowitz,. Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream and Dessert Book. Here’s our menu:.

Sharing the Table, Dinner Parties for Charity

http://www.davidschiller.com/sharing-the-table/2013/02/sweet-seventeen

Post no. 17. Our seventeenth dinner. Seventeen! A lot of menus, a lot of planning. Especially for this group of guests, more than half of whom were repeats…four of them multiple repeats, in fact. So the challenge of 17 was how to keep it fresh. Foodwise, Sharing the Table is the opposite of a restaurant with its core menu of signature dishes. Foodwise, the intention is all about exploring ingredients. Early inspiration for our Sharing menu-building came out of A Platter of Figs. Here’s our menu:. Blood o...

Surviving Amelia: Amelia was there; or Central Park on December 14, 1980

http://roseduncan.blogspot.com/2011/02/amelia-was-there-or-central-park-on.html

My search for Amelia Earhart. Saturday, February 26, 2011. Amelia was there; or Central Park on December 14, 1980. I lived through both Kennedy assassinations, through Martin Luther King, Jr's death in Memphis and the riots that followed. I remembered Malcolm X being shot at the Audubon Ballroom. All those murders effected me, but when John was murdered I was devastated. I suppose that this was what it took for me to lose my innocence. Labels: Amelia Earhart John Lennon. Surviving Amelia: June 2010

http://roseduncan.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

My search for Amelia Earhart. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. The business of writing, or why Amelia Earhart picked the two hardest professions. Next week I get to hear another response, this time in conference. I get to sit down in a room and have notes given and take them and do my best. And once that's done, which will take a little while, the book will go out. I hope it will get published then, but who knows? But who can really say? Labels: A life worth living. Monday, June 28, 2010. Waiting and a hoping.

bake and crafthouse: March 2012

http://bakeandcrafthouse.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Cooking and craft classes for kids. Wednesday, 28 March 2012. Bread Sculpture, The Edible Art by Ann Wiseman. I was recently given a fantastic second hand book by a Canadian friend about Bread Sculpture that I have been meaning to share ever since. It has some great recipes and tips for bread making but the best part is the instructions to make a huge variety of edible bread sculptures from mermaids to dinosaurs! The illustrations are so fun I can't wait to try some of these out in my classes. PS Both we...

Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Thursday, April 29, 2010. If you made the cheesecake. Below, you might be wondering what to do with all those egg whites and all that leftover lemon curd. Maybe you already made lemon meringue tartlets. If not, you could try making macarons. I should warn you, though: if they work you'll be overcome with baking euphoria, if not. not. You decide whether it's worth the risk. Adapted from The Fundamental Techniques of Classic Pastry Arts. Egg whites, room temp.

Power to the Bauer: Eggs

http://powertothebauer.blogspot.com/2012/01/eggs.html

Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Monday, January 30, 2012. The cardboard box. That's what came first in my chicken adventure. Our fifty meat birds and twenty-five layers were sent through the United States Postal Service in two ventilated cardboard boxes strapped one on top of the other. The package was chirping as T. brought it out from the back and it chirped all the way home, stopping at sudden movements or loud noises only to resume seconds later. Power to the Bauer: May 2011

Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. So what to do? Thursday, May 19, 2011. The Bauer is Back. My geographical relocation means a number of things, but most pertinent to this post is the change in my proximity to the garden. I am now, instead of 20 miles, 20 feet from the garden, which makes keeping on top of the weeds so much easier. I can also check the progress of my seedlings daily (not weekly) and putter before breakfast while the kettle boils for tea.

Surviving Amelia: July 2010

http://roseduncan.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

My search for Amelia Earhart. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Surviving Amelia: or as Elvis says 'Accidents Can Happen'. The basic temperament, the basic person is there underneath it all. The question is what you do with that. Muriel knows what her sister became, so her story is told in reverse. It's interesting to deconstruct it and imagine what really must have happened. Nothing is perfect. Nothing is simple. Nothing is tidy in life. It's the untidiness that fascinates us. Muriel Sisters Best Friends. Always...
