These Things Too: March 2013
http://thesethingstoo.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Thursday, March 28, 2013. When Allen died in 1997 a local record store in Indianapolis held a memorial and people were invited to speak. I wrote a poem about my encounter with Allen and read it. I later lost the poem and the cassette that had my reading on it. Just today in a file I found a copy of the poem. I found I still like it and want to share it. Memories of Allen Ginsberg. The thick black beard. Onto the tablecloth of. Sung in the flat.

Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Thursday, October 20, 2011. Spoken Word" artists, Dick Gregory and Mort Sahl. A 3-CD set offered at a single disc price. While Biafra doesn't own a computer and doesn't use email (except through his record label, Alternative Tentacles), he has taken to the internet in the form of a video journal called "WWJD" which is posted to Youtube. His recent monologue on then Occupy Wall Street movement is alternately scatter shot and insightful. But there wi...

Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Sunday, January 13, 2013. Songwriters. Phil Ochs. Even though you can't expect to defeat the absurdity of the world, you must make that attempt. That's morality, that's religion. That's art. That's life." - Phil Ochs. A pamphlet, no matter how good, is never read more than once, but a song is learned by heart and repeated over and over." - Joe Hill. Between 1964 and 1966 Phil's first three albums were released on Jac Holzman's Elektra Records label...
These Things Too: Songwriters... Paul Simon
http://thesethingstoo.blogspot.com/2013/01/songwriters-paul-simon.html
Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Saturday, January 12, 2013. Songwriters. Paul Simon. If I ever meet Paul Simon I have one question for him. I want to know if, after writing the line "The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National guitar," he took the rest of the day off. It is one of a very few pop songs written in free verse; the only rhyme in the song is an internal one, "Michigan seems like a dream to me now.". Is really worth a look. Take a look:. Now he would first develo...
These Things Too: Songwriting....
http://thesethingstoo.blogspot.com/2013/01/songwriting.html
Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Sunday, January 6, 2013. 8220;Somebody said to me, But the Beatles were anti-materialistic. That’s a huge myth. John and I literally used to sit down and say, Now, let’s write a swimming pool.” - Paul McCartney. I want to look at songwriting by looking at some of what I consider to be some of the greatest songs we have. First up. It is probably silly to claim any one song as Dylan's best, but this is the least silly claim of all. What I find so...

This is the second part of a look. an inventory. http://thesethingstoo.blogspot.com/2013/01/songwriters.html
Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Monday, January 7, 2013. For no reason I can fathom - I love how the brain works - this morning I was struck by how two great songs suddenly seemed related in some odd way. It had never occurred to me before, even though I have loved, and played, both songs countless times in the past forty years. Six short verses, four lines each and, like every song on Dylan's John Wesley Harding album. Dave Van Ronk was not a fan. Neon flowers and paisley, elabo...

These Things Too: When in Rome....
http://thesethingstoo.blogspot.com/2011/02/when-in-rome.html
Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Saturday, February 12, 2011. In the fire blue forests, faded and forgotten. I crawled through the cotton fields, picking for cotton. The overseer sneered, his whipping was rotten. In child-like terror I tore out the tap roots. Cards of the lash were calling to follow suit. I dashed for the swamps, the hounds in hot pursuit. All through the night a figure of fright, as I hid my head. And the buried their nose in a cut of my cloths, now torn in shreds.
These Things Too: September 2011

Random acts of reflection on music, media, and politics. Sunday, September 25, 2011. Everything old is new again. Links to this post. Friday, September 2, 2011. The things we remember. Earlier today, playing around on Facebook, I posted a video of my favorite love song. The opening chord reminded me that there is a medieval pudding recipe made from yellow rose petals. Looking for an image of yellow roses I found that they are a symbol of joy, affection and friendship. And it wasn't even noon. But that wi...

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. New Health Insurance Blog. I have started yet another Blog,. This one is called: Limited Medical. It is from that blog that I will write articles that will be useful to my insurance web site. This requires two things. The first is to find ways to "drive" people to the web site. Dear Bob,
January 16, 2017. Email #43, Subject: preventing the budget office from doing its job? I’m reading the rules package you voted for on the first day of the new Congress. 25: The Director of the Congressional Budget Office shall … prepare an estimate of whether a bill would cause … a net increase in direct spending in excess of $5,000,000,000 in any of the 4 consecutive 10 fiscal year periods…. Isn’t that incredibly important information? January 15, 2017. Email #42, Subject: repeal but replace later?

Dear Bob Dylan – ~a collection of letters
A collection of letters. Reviews of jest and raillery. What began ten years ago as a means of expression has blossomed into a 214-page book. Open for reviews which I will gladly post on this site. August 27, 2015. June 14, 2007. Dear Bob Dylan,. Congratulations on the Prince of Austurias Award. All day I’ve listened to. There you have it, a word or two beyond refinement. Screw "Dear John" letters..... Dear Bob Saget
Screw "Dear John" letters. Dear Bob Saget. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Well today it happened, the moment I had been waiting for, the goal I had been working towards and when it happened, not going to lie, it kinda took my breathe away. Holy shit, so that's. Did you know Tucker Max had a baby and is engaged? Yea bro, okay). To whi...
