The Childish Adult: A Life in Movies Pt. 1: 1980 - 1984

Sunday, May 18, 2014. A Life in Movies Pt. 1: 1980 - 1984. Do you think you can tell much about a person by the movies they watch? I'd say you can, but barely so. If this were a truly accurate account of someone, how could we explain people who absolutely love slasher movies? Would we run screaming from them? I believe this was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. My Uncle Dennis took me and even bought me a Superman ring at the concession. Pretty doggone cool! The first of many Harrison Ford movies ...

The Childish Adult: August 2013
http://harperanddad.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 8, 2013. The past two years our family has been receiving weekly garden boxes from Pinckney Farm. In addition to the standards such as sweet corn, greens, potatoes, broccoli, and pickling cucumbers we have also been introduced (forced, you might say) to eat things we could never have even identified a few years ago. Daikon? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Johnsons. in South Carolina. Almost a yellow belt. Childish Adult Photo Blog. AHHHMaking Up for Lost Time. I've taken the photos, but ...

The Childish Adult: January 2014
http://harperanddad.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 29, 2014. I used to have quite a CD collection. The first two discs I ever bought were John Lennon Live in New York City. And the Beatles compilation Past Masters, Part 1. Most of my CDs, however, came from our local music store, Vintage Vinyl. It was a cool place where all the guys behind the counter wore concert t-shirts and had tattoos up and down their arms. It was the type of place where you knew you'd be okay if you showed up at the counter with a Butthole Surfers. In the years s...

The Childish Adult: November 2013
http://harperanddad.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 9, 2013. So, I've been MIA from the bloggerverse over the past couple of months. That's a really long time. I could blame in on the demands of teaching and parenting. I could shuffle my feet and mumble something about being so tired lately. I could probably think of a thousand excuses. If I had to. In reality I've just been distracted by other things. While I have. Today, I am thankful. I share this not in an attempt to elicit understanding, as I know that would be impossible, just as.

almost a yellow belt: Status Update
http://almostayellowbelt.blogspot.com/2013/01/status-update.html
Almost a yellow belt. Sunday, January 13, 2013. I'm not quite sure what that means, but I know that I'm working on getting my priorities in order in a few ways right now to get rid of the time swallowing pointlessness clutter. I am working to make my use of time more purposeful. I think that's a thing to shoot for.purpose. So, I'll go with it, and see where it takes me. Then I did (because I'm dealing with priorities.) some long overdue blog reading. I read my friend Chris' blog. When youre in it? A good...

Sunday, November 25, 2012. Hooked on Vegas - NOT. On one of the street corners we were subjected to a crazed religious fanatic as we waited for the light to change. "DO YOU GIVE YOUR SOUL TO OUR LORD SAVIOR? As if the cards weren't enough there were other modes of advertisement. Some people would walk around with a sign strapped to their back. Even more bold were the trucks that would drive up and down the strip promising twenty minute delivery. Ugh! Or, more realistically - EVER. We took our bikes when ...

Monday, January 21, 2013. Not One to Impress. Questioning my intelligence, huh? In fairness she was referring to my tendency to make fun of myself at every turn. But still. In that vein, here's a repost of a piece I wrote in 2010 poking fun at my lack of "braininess.". A few years ago I read this really wonderful book titled Other People's Words. They are white, urban Appalachian children. Being as close to immune to hot weather as two people can be, Tricia and I flipped on the overhead fan, threw open o...

The Childish Adult: April 2013
http://harperanddad.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 28, 2013. Yesterday I stopped by World Market and picked up a bright pink bottle of Rogue's Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale. That's right: Doughnut.Maple.Bacon.Ale. I brought it over to a buddy's house and while we sort of appreciated it (and plan to try it again) our wives thought it was about the most terrible thing they had ever tasted. Good friend of mine tried. It said it was the nastiest thing he ever tried. I had it and it sucked. Horrible. The guy working at Rogue said some bottles ...

The Childish Adult: July 2013
http://harperanddad.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Six-a-half hour drive today to Cheyenne, Wyoming. We just missed Frontier Days. We could see forever with only faint mountains in the distance from time to time to break the horizon. We had lunch in Laramie. Noone said "Howdy, partner" to me. Tricia reminded this is where they killed that boy a number of years ago for being gay. Hopefully, like the new pope, people here are beginning to outgrow their old selves. Sunday - Monday: Salt Lake City. Saturday, July 27, 2013. The high Si...
