So near and yet so far away

http://denisegoldberg2006novascotia.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

So near and yet so far away. An exploration of western Nova Scotia. Friday, August 11, 2006. A non-plan is made! Whatever happened to just wandering? Which way should I travel, counter-clockwise or clockwise? Counter-clockwise may be smarter since if (when? The road happens to be on the coast, there will be no ribbon of road between me and the water. Of course, based on my experience last year on Prince Edward Island. Right now I'm leaning toward taking the the morning ferry. I'll use the afternoon f...

Denise Goldberg Photography - Blog

Friday, March 23, 2018. There's still snow on the ground but I took a chance on a short walk at Maudslay this afternoon. I walked where others had been before, staying on a snow-covered path and avoiding patches of mud. My destination was a hillside that usually is a sea of crocus in the spring. I didn't know what I would see but I thought it was worth a walk. Posted by Denise Goldberg. Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Posted by Denise Goldberg. Monday, March 19, 2018. Posted by Denise Goldberg. Boston to Oregon, a cross-country celebration

Boston to Oregon, a cross-country celebration. It's time to live my dream of riding my bicycle across the country. Monday, January 26, 2009. It's time to ride my dream. Journal entry written on May 10, 2002. I planned to take a short bike trip this summer to celebrate my 50th birthday. I've never even felt middle-aged - so how did 50 years pass? It's time for a summer of bicycling! After that, I'll have to decide what comes next. To learn a little about me, press the Author link at the top of the page.

Ireland at last

Explorations in two countries, from Belcoo to Belfast. Monday, January 19, 2009. Looking back, thoughts from July 2003. This seems to be my year for wandering far from home, and for exploring islands. I've had Ireland on my mind as a destination for a while, and it finally bubbled to the top this year. Ireland - one island, but two countries. Of course there are places that look interesting to me in both countries, so. My decision - one island, two countries, and I'm visiting both of them! I know that I'...

What do you mean I can't ride my bike?

What do you mean I can't ride my bike? The journey back - - from crash to recovery. Friday, January 16, 2009. Plans are apparently made to be changed. I spent a fair amount of time dreaming of biking during the winter months of 2004. And of course I was planning bike tours in my dreams. Should I use all of my vacation time in one fabulous trip, or should I take a couple of shorter trips? To my summer 3 to 4 days a week. This journal is a bit different from my other journals. It is about biking, but i...

Wandering along the edge

Wandering along the edge. An exploration of Prince Edward Island. Monday, January 26, 2009. Hey Denise, it's August: And you still haven't settled on the location of your second biking vacation of the year! Journal entry written on August 1, 2005. Yes, you're right, I really am. Talking to myself, although I could just as easily be talking to one of my touring bikes. She has been bugging me about making plans ever since I got home from my trip in Downeast Maine. Are you implying that I'm not normal?

So near and yet so far away

So near and yet so far away. An exploration of western Nova Scotia. Monday, January 26, 2009. Waking up from a long dream. decision time. Journal entry written on June 11, 2006. The winter months are usually my dreaming months. By early spring I have settled on my touring destination(s) for the year. Initially I was going to travel over the sea to Nova Scotia for a long weekend back in 2004. Those plans had to be canceled after my bike and I performed an unexpected flip. It's entirely possible that my mi...

Rolling by the shortest coastline

Rolling by the shortest coastline. Three states, two wheels, one day - and repeat! Saturday, January 17, 2009. On Friday, May 5, 2006, I made a snap decision, a traveling decision. The clamor of my bikes, with Rover (my touring mascot). Joining in. It's spring, it's time to wander, it's time to tour. But - I'm feeling a desire to travel now. Ah, that decision was easy to make, wasn't it? A weekend tour leaving from home. What direction? See, this camera is just the right size for me! For now, please use ...

To Newfoundland! an awesome August adventure

An awesome August adventure. Sunday, September 13, 2009. I've been wandering through my photo galleries from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. A few favorites have jumped into a new gallery. Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Photos pop up among words. I've scattered some photos among the words in my tale. If you're interested in seeing a few images in the context of my travel days, take another quick glance through the pages of this journal. Sunday, September 6, 2009. A swath of Newfoundland:. I know, I know, it...

Panniers, a trailer, both

Panniers, a trailer, both? For the touring cyclist. how much did you say you need with you. And where are you going to put it? Sunday, January 18, 2009. My bicycle as the vehicle, my body as the engine. How will I carry my gear? What do you recommend? I've toured with panniers, and I've toured with a trailer, and I imagine I'll continue to choose based on the trip I'm about to take. I don't pretend to have all of the answers (does anyone? Back in 1998 I contemplated (and took) my first solo trip. On that...
