Rolling by the shortest coastline

The state of New Hampshire must have the shortest coastline of all of the states that touch the ocean. This quick 2-day escape took me from home in northeastern Massachusetts, across the very short coast of New Hampshire, and into Kittery, Maine. The next day my journey was reversed. bicycle touring photography

Rolling by the shortest coastline

http://denisegoldberg2006threestates.blogspot.com/2009/01/introduction.html

Rolling by the shortest coastline. Three states, two wheels, one day - and repeat! Saturday, January 17, 2009. On Friday, May 5, 2006, I made a snap decision, a traveling decision. The clamor of my bikes, with Rover (my touring mascot). Joining in. It's spring, it's time to wander, it's time to tour. But - I'm feeling a desire to travel now. Ah, that decision was easy to make, wasn't it? A weekend tour leaving from home. What direction? See, this camera is just the right size for me! Look over my shoulder.

Rolling by the shortest coastline. Three states, two wheels, one day - and repeat! Friday, January 16, 2009. For now, please use Blogger's list of posts in the sidebar to follow my trip in reverse sequence. I plan to flip this blog on its head so that the posts flow from oldest to newest (like the table of contents in a book), adding a real Table of Contents and a Page by Page sidebar entry, and adding (better) next and previous links at the bottom of each post. Denise, January 16, 2009.

Rolling by the shortest coastline

Rolling by the shortest coastline. Three states, two wheels, one day - and repeat! Sunday, May 7, 2006. Some rather jagged headstones in the Point of Graves Burial Ground, Portsmouth. I found it fascinating to see buoys sitting on this Coast Guard dock. It's very different to see the entire buoy rather than just the part that pokes up above the water. Do you think the birds argue about who gets to live in this fancy multi-family dwelling? Little waves reflecting sunlight. Look over my shoulder.

Rolling by the shortest coastline. Three states, two wheels, one day - and repeat! Sunday, May 7, 2006. In sunshine, with a bit of wind too. That wild wind we had last night did a really nice job of moving the clouds. I woke this morning to clear blue skies, with temperatures a little cooler than yesterday and with some remaining but relatively minor wind. It was a good day for riding. On my bike (or not! Was very interesting to her. Reversing course today meant just that. I rode the same roads as ye...

Panniers, a trailer, both

http://denisegoldbergpanniersortrailer.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Panniers, a trailer, both? For the touring cyclist. how much did you say you need with you. And where are you going to put it? Sunday, January 18, 2009. My bicycle as the vehicle, my body as the engine. How will I carry my gear? What do you recommend? I've toured with panniers, and I've toured with a trailer, and I imagine I'll continue to choose based on the trip I'm about to take. I don't pretend to have all of the answers (does anyone? Back in 1998 I contemplated (and took) my first solo trip. On that...

Panniers, a trailer, both? For the touring cyclist. how much did you say you need with you. And where are you going to put it? Sunday, January 18, 2009. Need a rack trunk? I knew when I bought the camera that I'd have to figure out how to safely carry it with me - and somehow, riding with the camera strapped to my body didn't seem like the right solution for me. It was time to look at rack trunks. My choice - or maybe I should say my camera's choice - was a bag from Arkel. Panniers: a compact choice.

Ireland at last

Explorations in two countries, from Belcoo to Belfast. Monday, January 19, 2009. Looking back, thoughts from July 2003. This seems to be my year for wandering far from home, and for exploring islands. I've had Ireland on my mind as a destination for a while, and it finally bubbled to the top this year. Ireland - one island, but two countries. Of course there are places that look interesting to me in both countries, so. My decision - one island, two countries, and I'm visiting both of them! I know that I'...

What do you mean I can't ride my bike?

What do you mean I can't ride my bike? The journey back - - from crash to recovery. Friday, January 16, 2009. Plans are apparently made to be changed. I spent a fair amount of time dreaming of biking during the winter months of 2004. And of course I was planning bike tours in my dreams. Should I use all of my vacation time in one fabulous trip, or should I take a couple of shorter trips? To my summer 3 to 4 days a week. This journal is a bit different from my other journals. It is about biking, but i...

Wandering along the edge

Wandering along the edge. An exploration of Prince Edward Island. Monday, January 26, 2009. Hey Denise, it's August: And you still haven't settled on the location of your second biking vacation of the year! Journal entry written on August 1, 2005. Yes, you're right, I really am. Talking to myself, although I could just as easily be talking to one of my touring bikes. She has been bugging me about making plans ever since I got home from my trip in Downeast Maine. Are you implying that I'm not normal?

So near and yet so far away

So near and yet so far away. An exploration of western Nova Scotia. Monday, January 26, 2009. Waking up from a long dream. decision time. Journal entry written on June 11, 2006. The winter months are usually my dreaming months. By early spring I have settled on my touring destination(s) for the year. Initially I was going to travel over the sea to Nova Scotia for a long weekend back in 2004. Those plans had to be canceled after my bike and I performed an unexpected flip. It's entirely possible that my mi...
