The miracle of modern medicine | Sham Bus

Posted by: Laura M. August 10, 2015. The miracle of modern medicine. I left home two months ago today. What a couple of months it’s been, across two continents with plenty of ups and downs. It will be on to a third continent in just over a week, then finally back home to round out the 80 days. I am definitely ready to be home. Why not have ridiculous puffball sandals? Today has been more of the same: work with Emma, discovering yet another set of strange tonal changes, lunch, and work on my conference pr...

Posted by: Laura M. July 8, 2015. Banfora, le paradis terrestre. Time to recount the rest of our holiday weekend adventures! We arrived at another small booth, where we parked the car in the shade and paid our entrance fees ($2/person for international tourists, $1/person for Burkinabe nationals). From there, we walked. Nate and I went for a jog in the late afternoon and we enjoyed a bottle of champagne in the evening that Barkissa had brought over for our 4. T minus one week til I go to France! Notify m...

A long, frustrating week | Sham Bus

Posted by: Laura M. July 14, 2015. A long, frustrating week. Happy Bastille Day, everyone! Though I somehow doubt there will be any celebrations here in Burkina, and I’ll be just narrowly missing them in France. This week has been one of those trying fieldwork weeks where you ask yourself, why do I do this again? Anyhow, we are about to head out, so I’m going to throw the rest of my stuff in a bag and hit the road. More soon from either Ouaga or France!

About | Sham Bus
https://shambus.wordpress.com/about
Sham Bus seems to be a central focus of my travels. I often inadvertently end up on modes of transport that leave something to be desired in terms of comfort or organization, and yet I always get where I’m trying to go with a couple more doses of life experience and a good story or two. You’re taking me back to bus rides in Cambodia and Thailand 50 years ago (also a riverboat up the Mekong). Great blog, Laura. On July 2, 2011. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
