What is Psychodynamic Therapy? I highly recommend an article by psychologist Jonathan Shedler called " That Was Then, This is Now: An Introduction to Contemporary Psychodynamic Therapy. The article was written for clinicians in training, and I assign it in a course I teach for first-year doctoral students. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT therapists use tools and techniques aimed at immediate behavior change, and at helping you reconsider reflexive cognitions. I use tools from CBT in many of my treatments, and use it as a primary focus when treating certain specific disorders, such as phobias and OCD.
