Nepal - Developing World Connections: August 4th: Visit to the local school and the work begins again.
http://www.dwcvolunteersinnepal.blogspot.com/2014/08/august-4th-visit-to-local-school-and.html
August 5, 2014. August 4th: Visit to the local school and the work begins again. Another amazing day in hot Nepal! The morning started with a traditional breakfast of roti and eggs accompanied by milky tea that would rival anything from Starbucks! Then on to the bus for a 40 minute ride that allows us to peek into the lives or rural Nepal as we bump on down the road. The nightly card game of President calls so that's all for today's update. Math teacher and DWC volunteer. Nepal, July 2014. To build schoo...

Nepal - Developing World Connections: August 3rd: The Families arrive in Dang to a Tikka filled Welcome!
http://www.dwcvolunteersinnepal.blogspot.com/2014/08/august-3rd-families-arrive-in-dang-to.html
August 5, 2014. August 3rd: The Families arrive in Dang to a Tikka filled Welcome! The welcoming ceremony was followed be a tour of UNAKO House to see the progress that has been made on this spectacular building. The U30 group that spent the past two weeks at the site did an amazing amount of hard work (I could not believe how much concrete they poured). The 36 solar panels looked great on the roof and the team that tackled this challenging assignment last week deserves recognition. Nepal, August 2014.
Nepal - Developing World Connections: August 6th: Bricks, panels, windows, and grout.
http://www.dwcvolunteersinnepal.blogspot.com/2014/08/august-6th-bricks-panels-windows-and.html
August 7, 2014. August 6th: Bricks, panels, windows, and grout. Once we arrived back at the hotel, we had a few hours of down time, followed by a fantastic dinner, made up of a chicken, rice, and a variety of vegetables with vanilla ice cream for dessert. After dinner, we spent the rest of our night enjoying our favourite card game, President. After a high stakes wager, Miles now has to rock a moustache for the remainder of the trip. It's safe to say he isn't too happy about that. Nepal, August 2014.

December 16, 2010. Lahachowk, Nepal: Trekking and Exploring after our Volunteer Experience. So, onwards to the next destination village of Tadapani where we arrived for a late lunch and plenty of time to try to keep warm in the unheated guest house. Supper was very convivial with trekkers from all over the world all sitting around a communal dining table, talking and eating supper. And trying to keep warm. Did I mention that it was quite cold at Tadapani? Coldest part of the trip. The last leg down from ...

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Sri Lanka - Last Day: Celebrating Together. The day is hot and beautiful as Team 11 sets out together to inspect all the worksites. For the last 10 days we were divided into three teams rotating daily through all locations so it is very exciting to have a chance to take a good look around and see all that has been accomplished. This site started with a few holes in the ground and it was back breaking work to dig, build a complete foundation and support columns and start to brick th...

Monday, April 27, 2015. April 25: Day 7 - Day Off and MUCH Deserved. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country offering many different options for R R. Here is how our weary and sore workers enjoyed the day. A group headed to the beach and ocean at Palm Paradise – a favourite destinations for TRIP Canada volunteers. It was a glorious day. Richard and Joan went to tea country and were thrilled with the climbing, plantations and magnificent scenery. A wonderful day for everyone. DWC/TRIP Canada Team Leader. April 2...

Monday, January 31, 2011. And then the wheel came off and other adventures… our final days in Sri Lanka. The rest of the team went to the job site to spend a final day trying to finish a few tasks; painting (a lovely Sri Lankan yellow color that is growing on us), bricking two half walls, pouring five more columns…. All was accomplished despite the skies opening up after lunch with a torrential downpour! About 45 minutes into the drive, the wheel came off (literally) one of the vans. The driver got n...

Monday, April 27, 2015. April 22: Day 4 - Happy Earth Day! It’s Earth Day and we are working alongside our Sri Lankan colleagues, building a better community. We are divided into three work teams and rotating around three sites. So while we are creating a team identity, we are also sharing stories about all sites. Each of us takes great interest and pride in how all sites are progressing. Team 3 – yes, this team was also parging! Our evening was capped with a perfect dinner on the beach – sand and ...

It took all my energy to not reach out and give them group hugs! I will never forget those smiling faces. Most of us take computers for granted in North America, yet here in Sri Lanka, they are over the moon when we bring 1 single computer for a whole school. Tangalle, Sri Lanka: Memories. Sri Lanka - Developing World Connections: April 23: Day 5 - Hardest Day Yet
http://dwcvolunteersinsrilanka.blogspot.com/2015/04/april-23-day-5-hardest-day-yet.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. April 23: Day 5 - Hardest Day Yet. It seems that many of us felt that this was the most challenging work day yet. Was it because of the crazy hot temperatures or the fact that day 3 fell on hump day? But just for today, there will be no mention of parging or pounding or painting or lifting or measuring or cutting or sanding or sifting or sweeping! Our toughest day so far became one of our best! Friday, April 27, 2012. April 25: Closing ceremony and a tearful goodbye. It's with a heavy heart, an achy back (from all the hard work) and a sore head (from the arrack - local coconut whiskey), that I write my last blog post. The time has flown by here, as it always seems to, and yesterday was an emotional last day. Sri Lanka, April 2012. Monday, April 23, 2012. Monday, March 16, 2015. March 13: Day 13 - Final Day on the Project Site. Today is the last day of the project and the stage is pretty well completed. Anil announced to us that the costs of construction were less than anticipated so between that and a donation from the DWC group there is enough to complete the stage with a steel roof! After that, we were invited to Navajeevana at 10 am for the final celebration. Sri Lanka: March 2015. Labels: 10 year anniversary trip. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Natasha, th...

Kenya - Developing World Connections
Thursday, November 14, 2013. November 14: A Group Effort and a View of Mt. Kenya. Our work was over by early afternoon but not at our choosing, and all of us felt we had not given enough of our time to the day's task or to the project, but these things are not within our control. So it was back to the lodge for a late lunch and a cold beer or two, some reading and a little volleyball. Kenya, November 2013. November 13: A Tour of the Community.
