Kenya - Developing World Connections

Thursday, November 14, 2013. November 14: A Group Effort and a View of Mt. Kenya. Our work was over by early afternoon but not at our choosing, and all of us felt we had not given enough of our time to the day's task or to the project, but these things are not within our control. So it was back to the lodge for a late lunch and a cold beer or two, some reading and a little volleyball. Kenya, November 2013. November 13: A Tour of the Community. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Sri Lanka - Last Day: Celebrating Together. The day is hot and beautiful as Team 11 sets out together to inspect all the worksites. For the last 10 days we were divided into three teams rotating daily through all locations so it is very exciting to have a chance to take a good look around and see all that has been accomplished. This site started with a few holes in the ground and it was back breaking work to dig, build a complete foundation and support columns and start to brick th...

Monday, January 31, 2011. And then the wheel came off and other adventures… our final days in Sri Lanka. The rest of the team went to the job site to spend a final day trying to finish a few tasks; painting (a lovely Sri Lankan yellow color that is growing on us), bricking two half walls, pouring five more columns…. All was accomplished despite the skies opening up after lunch with a torrential downpour! About 45 minutes into the drive, the wheel came off (literally) one of the vans. The driver got n...

Haiti - Developing World Connections

Monday, November 19, 2012. November 10th: Safe arrival in Haiti. We arrived safely after a long night at the Miami airport. We spent the first week in Deslandes and got to work on the second building stucco coat. It is very hot and we did get some late afternoon rain for a couple of days and then a huge downpour Thursday evening which made the walk out quite muddy. We are now back in Verrettes and will be doing work on the property there using the materials we bought today in St. Marc. At around 3:00pm t...

When Developing World Connections offered me the opportunity to lead. A team to Bhindar, Rajasthan, I leapt at the chance of returning to India. I had been there many times before helping home owners build a new. Life with a solid roof over their heads. But this project was different. It was not house building for one or two families but building a sub-surface.
