Dwellers Tech Musings: May 2013
http://dwellertech.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Thoughts on tech things, geekery and other stuff with 9v dc. Monday, 27 May 2013. Raspberry Pi and the HD PVR. streaming and recording. Ive finished rebuilding the C app, to read from the HDPVR and offer the data via a simple HTTP interface, and embedded a little control to toggle recording on and off. With the HDPVR running around 8mbit, Im able to stream to about 5 clients simultaneously, which is pretty good going. The downside is dropouts are still present. ( Update: not anymore! Dwellers Tech Musings: Playing with the Hauppauge Colossus..
http://dwellertech.blogspot.com/2013/08/playing-with-hauppauge-colossus.html
Thoughts on tech things, geekery and other stuff with 9v dc. Sunday, 11 August 2013. Playing with the Hauppauge Colossus. I've been using the HD PVR usb unit a lot recently with the Raspberry Pi, but I recently found a great deal on a Hauppauge Colossus, which is like the PCI-e relation to the usb unit. higher bitrates, no oddball stability issues like the usb unit had, but also sadly not going to work with a Pi. Thankfully, Hauppauge have been busy developing their own capture app, which does. Because a...

Dwellers Tech Musings: June 2011
http://dwellertech.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts on tech things, geekery and other stuff with 9v dc. Saturday, 18 June 2011. The UK has postcodes, which are of a similar purpose to zip codes in the US. You put a postcode, and a house number on an envelope, and in theory thats pretty much all thats needed to get the letter to the destination. I went hunting, and found a document explaining the structure here. I started playing around a bit and heres what I ended up with. Tuesday, 7 June 2011. On Hosting, and other such things. Well here we are&...

Dwellers Tech Musings: June 2013
http://dwellertech.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts on tech things, geekery and other stuff with 9v dc. Sunday, 2 June 2013. Raspberry Pi and the HD PVR. streaming and recording, Part II. Finally got to the bottom of the drop outs / glitches. Some were my fault in the code, some were due to a dodgy cable feeding the HD PVR from the set top box. With the replacement cable in place, I had it stream for 12 hours straight with no reported dropouts. thats close to a record for this unit =). Subscribe to: Posts ( Atom ). View my complete profile.

Dwellers Musical Stuff: Simple Reaper Setup to get started..
http://dwellertunes.blogspot.com/2013/07/simple-reaper-setup-to-get-started.html
The ramblings of an auditory amateur. Wednesday, 31 July 2013. Simple Reaper Setup to get started. A quick post to help people who haven't used Reaper before get setup at least far enough to do some basic recording / noodling and fx. Probably all pretty straightforward stuff. but might be useful if you haven't messed with PC based music for a long while and now have a shiny modern PC sitting there looking a bit bored. Step 1 : Get Reaper. Order a pizza and celebrate. Step 2 : Get ASIO4ALL v2. So we'll be...

Dwellers Musical Stuff: Doctor Who, 10k+ and more..
http://dwellertunes.blogspot.com/2012/04/doctor-who-10k-and-more.html
The ramblings of an auditory amateur. Monday, 2 April 2012. Doctor Who, 10k and more. Back last may, I'd finally decided that I'd try putting up some of my piano playing online, so I mashed around a little in C minor, which has long been a favorite place to play in, and found the Doctor Who. Recording isn't easy, once that little red LED is on, you become hyper-conscious that everything you do this. Except now, there are. A site which has a pretty decent reader count. And because reading a Floppy is ...

Dwellers Musical Stuff: On sequencers.. and sequencing..
http://dwellertunes.blogspot.com/2011/07/on-sequencers-and-sequencing.html
The ramblings of an auditory amateur. Sunday, 24 July 2011. On sequencers. and sequencing. I've been playing with Music and Computers for a long while now. for me, the journey started with an Amiga, with a serial port Midi interface. For many others it was an Atari ST, but regardless, that midi port is fast becoming the only connector that still has widespread use now, over twenty years on. Where does this leave me?
