Other Places to Read Me. Author, digital editor, copyeditor. February 21, 2015. How to make enemies and alienate people. We’ve discussed here before how to win social media, both on Facebook and Twitter. Most of the advice boils down to Wheaton’s Law, which is:. Most people I know are, for good reason, aware that if you read an article online, you don’t, under any circumstances, read the comment section. Why? Well Because here be dragons, of course. But what about if you CAN’T avoid the comments? SO For ...

Other Places to Read Me. Author, digital editor, copyeditor. I'm not the girl with the most cake. Someday. SOMEDAY. February 28, 2015. I’m coming back home tomorrow, to 14th Street. There are a few things they don’t tell you when you start working in a newsroom. First off, it looks NOTHING like this. NO ONE WEARS TIES! They don’t tell you you’ll probably be scraping by, pay-wise. They don’t tell you that your work doesn’t exactly end when you leave the building. Did we already have this yesterday? Many m...

plufrompdx: Still Here!
http://plufrompdx.blogspot.com/2014/11/still-here.html
I've been thinking to myself that I should make an attempt at the Microblog Monday style of posting. I usually think of this on a different day of the week, and since I am finding it easy to not. Post, well, yeah, nothing has gotten posted to my poor old lonely blog. BUT, today is Monday, and here I am. Woot! I'mma do a little bullet list. cuz that's easy. Birthdays: T's birthday is next Sunday. I already took her out for her big gift. It was actually pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself! So, that's i...

plufrompdx: Winter Dark-Thirty
http://plufrompdx.blogspot.com/2014/12/winter-dark-thirty.html
In my region, in winter (who am I kidding; fall, winter and spring) the sky is often cloudy. The cloud cover sits like a bowl inverted over the city. Sometimes it is a monotone of gray, but most of the time there is texture to the clouds. Some years ago I was given a dawn simulator alarm clock. What a wonderful device! Are you an early riser by nature or more of a night owl? If left to my own devices (no noisy roommates, no necessary appointments) I am a night owl. 18 December, 2014 14:54. I must be out ...

MIDDLE GIRL: Early Morning Ruse
http://middle-girl.blogspot.com/2015/04/early-morning-ruse.html
Monday, April 06, 2015. It is 4:12 AM and I am awakened by the rumblings of Pete and his co-conspirator, Buttah. It is too early to get up (for good) and too late to go back to any kind of serious sleep. Though, blaming the awakening on the cats and by proxy, the pooch who is on instant alert and all too ready to rumble, is a bit unfair. It is really the fullness of a bladder that shakes a body from slumber. That wouldn't be great but it would be very much better. A 90 minute commute! It has been an extr...

plufrompdx: 0.8 FTE
http://plufrompdx.blogspot.com/2014/12/08-fte.html
And then, we shall have tea. Or, wait, was it tea or tequila? 09 December, 2014 14:43. I had to look up what 0.8 FTE meant. Really, you need to explain these things for your intellectually impaired readers : ). Good for you. I know you have been talking about this for a long time. Now all those Mondays to write, read, relax, or whatever you feel like doing. Its a wonderful thing. And soon 0.6 is going to look very tempting . . . 10 December, 2014 06:51. Congratulations. im voting for tequila.

plufrompdx: News, of a sort...
http://plufrompdx.blogspot.com/2015/05/news-of-sort.html
News, of a sort. As usual, it's been way too long since my last post. I'm sorry about that, because I should have been keeping you up to date along the way. Instead of an incremental accumulation of information, you get a big batch - a data dump, a bolus, an almost incomprehensible amalgamation of news from me. Like I said, I'm sorry. But, really, I'm sorry for us. T has breast cancer. FUCK YOU, CANCER, I'M TIRED OF YOU FUCKING UP PEOPLE IN MY LIFE! I'M TIRED OF YOU TAKING THEM AWAY FROM ME! Us: "Shoot&#...

8th Day: Full of Grace
http://8thdayplanner.blogspot.com/2015/04/full-of-grace_35.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Taking a Sunday afternoon nap in the grass, soaking up the sun. Being gifted tickets to a preview of The Age of Adaline. The movie was okay, but oh my, Blake Lively. I am beginning to think I have “a type”. Going to a dance marathon fundraiser and watching young folk dance with abandon. What joy! Spending a rainy afternoon mending clothes and sewing on buttons. I do find simple, quiet domestic arts quite meditative and enjoyable. April 22, 2015. April 22, 2015. April 25, 2015.
