The singularity (pt. 1). Pay what you want. The singularity (pt. 2) artificial creativity. In order for us to create an AI that could surpass our intellect, it would naturally have to not only achieve creative thought, but flourish at it. We often think of creativity as humanity’s saving grace, as the human aspect that no computer could emulate. However, if you logically examine the process of thought, it becomes evident that computers are far more suited to creative thought than humans. How to quickly e...

The singularity (pt. 2) artificial creativity. The singularity (pt. 1). I am currently in a freshman seminar on Aliens in fiction, so my mind has recently been drifting towards the far future and the many possibilities that our fate has in store (focusing on the more amusing ones). A preview:. The first ultraintelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make. (I. J. Good). To stop “those robot bastards” from killing your precious human friends, you might find it comforting that...I hate to...

Freedom.app — brilliant. Willie Smits: Doing it Right. On neo-luddites (and Dresden Codak). Wow, turns out neo-luddite, which I used in a previous post. Is a somewhat legitimate and popular term. I had been doing a little reading on the industrial revolution for a comic of mine. I think this calls for a brief and abbreviated revival of an old blog post series! How to quickly earn my respect and/or admiration. Use the term neo-luddite in conversation. Or b) aware of their own ridiculousness but at the ver...

Willie Smits: Doing it Right. The Rage in Placid Lake. While at least 9 out of 10 new movies that hit Hulu’s small screen are either old “classics” that I don’t care about or modern B-movies, every once in a while it delivers something that I enjoy. I just watched The Rage in Placid Lake. On the surface, it seems pretty run-of-the-mill, and I initially thought it was a bit of an Australian ripoff of. Filed under: elsewhere on the internet. Newer posts ». Pay what you want. The recent successes of Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead’s “pay what you want” releases have caused quite a stir in the music community, which is struggling to find a business model more fitting of our modern technological culture of consumption. However, I just read an interesting, although very brief, article. I couldn’t agree more that record companies are doing things wrong. They’re charging money in exchange for DRM-laden, low quality music that exists ...We often thin...

8220;fun” for everyone. On neo-luddites (and Dresden Codak). Freedom.app — brilliant. Super short post today because I’m busy busy busy. Showed me a brilliant app, developed solely for the purpose of making people like me, who often promise themselves “okay no internet until I’ve finished this essay” stick by their promises. It’s called freedom. Filed under: elsewhere on the internet. No Responses Yet to “freedom.app — brilliant”. Feed for this Entry. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

8220;fun” for everyone. The singularity (pt. 3). This was the worst possible week to try to start blogging more again. I am absolutely swamped, so I’ve missed a few days. take a computer science course | Ocean of Interwebs

Don’t sugar coat it. Take a computer science course. Too often I hear people saying they’re not “a math guy,” or they don’t “. Technology,” making some joke about how they can hardly even navigate a webpage. Maybe I’m just not “a makes-friends-with-close-minded-people guy,” but I often immediately dock them some points on my respect scale for saying such a thing. Do people actually use that?
