Adventures in our Urban Landscape: June 2014

http://edibleurbanland.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Adventures in our Urban Landscape. Monday, June 30, 2014. That's what harvest is for. Then this morning, the kids yanked up a monstrous carrot. Seeing it was a thrill. And the harvest was on. Growth has continued, and I have a counter-full of fresh, homegrown produce to feed my family. An assortment of basil. Paris Market carrots, Red Malabar spinach, Nyagous and Currant Sweet Pea tomatoes, Sheepnose Pimento and Aurora peppers and lots of basil. Yum. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Adventures in our Urban Landscape: Hailstorm

http://edibleurbanland.blogspot.com/2016/03/hailstorm.html

Adventures in our Urban Landscape. Saturday, March 19, 2016. All of my battered plants are wrapped in freeze blankets or covered in buckets for the next few days. Our bewilderingly early spring finally gave way to an onslaught of damaging weather. It seemed to come out of nowhere. My first concern is always the asparagus. It's been such a labor of love and patience to wait for this year's harvest, and the thought of losing it all is unbearable. The harvestable stalks were beheaded and broken, but...I pla...

Adventures in our Urban Landscape: October 2012

http://edibleurbanland.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Adventures in our Urban Landscape. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. We have a small backyard. I'm actually love it, because it's so much easier to manage than our former backyard. To be so small though, we have quite a lot of trees. The men in the family tackled the overgrown beast in the corner last week, turning our backyard into a temporary jungle. My fledgling hydrangeas got a bit trampled in the process, but at least the tree is under control. Sunday, October 28, 2012. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. The carro...

Adventures in our Urban Landscape: June 2015

http://edibleurbanland.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Adventures in our Urban Landscape. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. T's difficult to describe the peace that envelopes me when I step outdoors to be in my garden. I love to walk slowly in it. To be carefully observant. To allow myself to enter into this quiet world as a steward. It is in me to be a tyrant. But gardening has taught me over and over again that I am not in control. A currant tomato somehow self-seeded from last year's crop. Has demanded a place among the onions and carrots (and weeds). Grow Great Gr...

Adventures in our Urban Landscape: December 2015

http://edibleurbanland.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Adventures in our Urban Landscape. Wednesday, December 9, 2015. How does my garden grow. We're having a whacky winter in Texas. It feels more like spring. My asparagus needs to go brown and dormant, so I'm crossing my fingers for consistent cold temperatures in the coming month. I threw together some row covers last week for my broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and garlic. Thin-walled, flexible PVC. PVC cutting tool (my husband had one handy and I have no idea what it's actually called). Garden Anyw...

Word Weaver Art: June 2015

http://wordweaverart.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 25, 2015. I've never been an artist who chooses to do paintings based on a series, but I think I might be working on one right now. This is my second strawberry-inspired painting. If I do a third, I think that makes it a series! I wrote in my last post, that my strawberry picking adventure. I love the vegetables that I harvest, but my garden now is kind of. cute. My parents' garden was for food production; cute was never part of their plan. Thank you to Reagan Family Farms. She's the next-...

Word Weaver Art: July 2015

Wednesday, July 22, 2015. My Cup Runneth Over. We want to be with those who fill us up. I just returned from spending 24 hours with my mentor. And my cup runneth over. Is a master artist. and. she's my friend. I am filled with awe by her talent and skill. I am filled with gratitude for her hospitality. I am filled with the blessing of our friendship. I am filled with laughter from our shared secrets. I am filled with compassion for our stories of heart. We worked that little painting over top to bottom!

Lanie at Edible Urban Garden. I have a little garden in Rozelle about 5km from the centre of Sydney. I love to grow as much organic food as I can in a tiny space. The garden calms and excites me, and is a wonderful little green space in a big city. This blog is a record plotting the changes over seasons and years. View my complete profile. The Usability of Cooking and Eating. Thursday, January 17, 2013. Canning Jar Smackdown: Mason vs. Weck. I know it’s the dead of winter, but I’m already thinking about gardening. I just sent away for more seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Than I will be able to plant unless I expand my garden again this year. This means I’m also thinking about canning. Even though I’m usually a rhubarb purist)  and I also came upon this one:   Rhubarb Shrub. The Weck jars are beautiful objects.  They are th...0160; (...
