Ed's Travel Blog. Random spoutings from around the world! Monthly Archives: February 2012. Chalet Host – The “Training”. When we started planning our year off, we started with a plan to do more snowboarding and worked back from there. The traditional way of spending a season on the slopes has always been Chalet Hosting, and so we applied and were accepted for a job in that role. Continue reading →. Philippines | Ed's Travel Blog

Ed's Travel Blog. Random spoutings from around the world! Getting to the Philippines was, it has to be said, a culture shock! How could 2 countries be more different, Japan and the Philippines, and be connected by such a short flight? For every bit that Japan is clean tidy and organised, Manila is the opposite – we were greeted by a wall of heat, dirt, and poverty, and the first person we interacted with (the taxi driver) fleeced me! Time to get my “developing world” head on! The primary activity for me ...

Ed's Travel Blog. Random spoutings from around the world! Monthly Archives: April 2012. Chalet Host – The Rest of the Season. In our last week at work, we’d been able to find some temporary accommodation. It was here that we spent our first week of being unemployed trying to catch up on sleep, and rest our weary bodies. We needed to make a new plan pretty sharpish if we were going to stay in the Alps, but we needed some R&R more! Continue reading →. Join 4 other followers. Ed's Travel Blog.

When we started planning our year off, we started with a plan to do more snowboarding and worked back from there. The traditional way of spending a season on the slopes has always been Chalet Hosting, and so we applied and were accepted for a job in that role. Now those of you that know me will know that I am not shy of work, so what happened in the last 6 weeks to make us realise that this wasn’t gonna be sustainable?

Random musings from my travelling adventures. October 7, 2011 by Gillian Klee. As well as Chinese characters (. Which helps infinitely when trying to find your way around – it’s something you can at least attempt to pronounce! The highlight of Tokyo for me had to be the sumo tournament, which our visit happily coincided with. I can’t claim to like normal wrestling, but the sumo matches were something else and so much fun to watch! We spent our two days in Kyoto wandering around the pretty, traditional st...

Random musings from my travelling adventures. Pearl Harbour and Hiroshima. October 12, 2011 by Gillian Klee. I found the museum exhibits the most interesting out of everything – learning about how the Japanese planned and executed the surprise attack on the US naval base was riveting and the aftermath emotive. It was all quite factual and unbiased, just an accurate portrayal of the event which brought the USA into the war, and fuelled my desire to visit Hiroshima a few short weeks later. As at Pearl Harb...

Random musings from my travelling adventures. Laquo; The Philippines. November 6, 2011 by Gillian Klee. The restaurant overhangs the Peak and as such the window seats afford stunning views over Victoria Harbour, and we managed to wangle the corner table – two sides of which faced the big picture windows. I know I’m gushing, but it was amazing. There were a few days where it absolutely tipped it down, and so it was that we spent a rather wet day touring the New Territories. I must stop at this point and mention that I am trying very hard not to just have a big old rant about the way in which the training was run, and in my next post, how the actual chalet hosting unfolded as well. Random musings from my travelling adventures. Laquo; Chalet Host Training in a Nutshell. Chalet Hosting – The Real Deal. February 12, 2012 by Gillian Klee. Picking up from my previous post, we finally reached the end of our chalet host training and moved into our very own chalet. It was really nice and spacious, with seven guest bedrooms, a huge living/dining area and a pretty spectacular view:. Then Shopping Day arrived. Now, it doesn’t sound like that’d be too bad, right? A natural part of chalet hosti...

Random musings from my travelling adventures. Laquo; Chalet Hosting – The Real Deal. March 5, 2012 by Gillian Klee. I am now officially what is referred to as a ski bum.
