Possible ways to cope with stress. FINAL blog-reflection blog →. April 15, 2013. I have focussed my topic over the weeks on exams, the types of questions used in exams, the effects of exams and how we can overcome these effects. I began by talking about the testing effect ( https:/ ekennedy92.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/the-testing-effect/. I then extended this to talking about ‘deep’ questioning and thinking ( https:/ ekennedy92.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/deep-questions/. Graesser, A. C., Lu, S.,...Huppert, ...

Entrance and Exit exams! 8216;Deep’ Questions…. February 25, 2013. Graesser and McMahen (1993) investigated this theory, whether anomalies in information trigger more questions in college students. They had different versions of information where information was either added or removed; there was also a complete version of the information. Results indicated that the deletion of information triggers more questions than other versions they used. Craig, S. D., Sullins, J., Witherspoon, A., a...Graesser, A&#...

Newer posts →. February 11, 2013. This week I thought I would blog about something that we all have a tendency to doCramming for exams! So as usual there are always two sides to the argument. There are those who say cramming and procrastination doesn’t do any harm and is in fact a part of adaptive study (Sommer, 1990). There are also those who say that cramming does not work and crammers lack motivation and self-regulation (Tuckman, 1998). Here are all the links I used for this blog:-. February 4, 2013.

Entrance and Exit exams! Possible ways to cope with stress →. March 10, 2013. So as I have said in previous blogs that not everyone likes exams and they can cause stress for students. But does it just cause stress to those who dislike the process of exams and suffer from nerves? Or does this process affect all students and prevent realistic results? Is this stress just due to students’ perception and dislike for exams or does it affect students’ performance? Entrance and Exit exams! Interesting topic Eve...

8216;Deep’ Questions… →. February 18, 2013. Considering the research discussed above it would seem that frequent tests can improve recall but is this due to immediate testing after learning of the material? And how does frequent testing affect students, especially those who suffer from anxiety due to exams? De Pablo, J. et al. (1990). Examination-associated anxiety in students of medicine. Academic Medicine, 65,. Pp 197-236). San Diego, CA: Academic Press. 8216;Deep’ Questions… →. In their study, Epstein...

Science of Learning 2013. Science of Education Coordinating Blog 2013. The Scholarship of Learning. Final Blog (except for your reflection). I can’t believe it is over again. Good job. There were some great syntheses, however, there were far too many lists of what you had covered in your previous blogs. A synthesis needs to highlight what has emerged in your thinking as a result of having done all this research. For too many of the blogs, it was just a recap of what had already been covered. I think the ...

A blog about the Science of Education…. Skip to primary content. Are these skittles the best idea? March 18, 2013. In my last few blogs I’ve talked about different types of motivation, all the while ignoring some of my personal experience. I’m sure (or at least I hope! We’ve all done what I’m doing now for every 50 words, I can have a skittle. This for me is my main motivation to do this blog, in direct contrast to what my previous blogs have stated! Negative Punishment something positive being taken away.

When the Pencil Meets the Neuron. Has Hogwarts got it right? Reflective Blog →. April 14, 2013 · 1:53 pm. Let’s just pack our bags and head to Hogwarts. My blogs investigated the different ways in which students are examined and how effective these examinations are. Medical students are forgetting what they are taught even before they have graduated (Miller, 1962). Is the assessment method the problem? However, it has been argued that it isn’t the actual testing that is improving the student’s grades, it...

Science Of Education Blog. Writing Anxiety; ‘ I don’t want to write it! March 11, 2013. Individuals who suffer from writing anxiety find it very hard to put what they are thinking onto paper. This can occur before beginning write, which can sometimes prevent individuals to prepare or research into what they would like to discuss in their blogs. But why does this happen? Should We Stop Lecturing? | Science of Education
https://bethseducationblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/should-we-stop-lecturing
Should We Stop Lecturing? Over the last few weeks I have been discussing some of the issues with lectures. But, even with these issues we continue to use lectures as a main teaching method. Why do this if there are so many problems with them? Should we change the way we are taught and stop lecturing in order to learn better? It is possible that there are better methods to teach that would be more beneficial for students such as small groups or oral presentation. Ebbinghaus, Hermann (1913). On memory:...
