On the road to somewhere: Snowman Diversity
http://plantecologist.blogspot.com/2007/02/snowman-diversity.html
On the road to somewhere. In which a plant ecologist explores botany, fiber arts, and other interesting roadside attractions. Tuesday, February 6, 2007. I was able to capture several snowpersons. Before they melted, and I would like to present them here. There were well dressed snow people. This little guy was one of my favorites. He was about 1 foot tall. Several, pure white varieties. There was a snow dog. This guy - love his hat and the pose of his arms. A snow person greats the day with enthusiasm.

On the road to somewhere: All we lost was sleep
http://plantecologist.blogspot.com/2008/05/all-we-lost-was-sleep.html
On the road to somewhere. In which a plant ecologist explores botany, fiber arts, and other interesting roadside attractions. Monday, May 5, 2008. All we lost was sleep. As those of you who are in the KC area know (and perhaps the rest of you know as well? Thursday night very strong storms blew through the area between 1 and 2 am. Here in Independence, we had 82 mile per hour winds blow through ahead of what they are calling a bow echo. In fact, our luck in this incident was amazing. 1 If the branch had ...

On the road to somewhere: Long Time No See
http://plantecologist.blogspot.com/2009/11/long-time-no-see.html
On the road to somewhere. In which a plant ecologist explores botany, fiber arts, and other interesting roadside attractions. Friday, November 20, 2009. Long Time No See. Been looking back over my blog, and I love being reminded of things I had forgotten about. For example, this post on snowman diversity. As such, I have decided I need to put time back into my blog, for myself, though I hope my friends and family will return to reading this blog and hopefully enjoy it. Fractal Metamorphosis: Pleasant surprises
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2010/04/pleasant-surprises.html
Gardens and therapy, psychology, fiction. On the Road to Somewhere. Wednesday, April 21, 2010. But last fall after most of the plants were dormant, I put a thick layer of leaf mold and compost over the area, and by now it has mostly been broken down and worm-eaten into the soil. The plants that are left appreciate it, and for the first time since it was put there in 2008, the dwarf crested iris ( Iris cristata. Has a flower bud - I'm finally going to see what it looks like in bloom.

Fractal Metamorphosis: August 2008
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Not exactly on the ball. On the Road to Somewhere. Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Not exactly on the ball. So I posted my monthly Annika-letter over on the dedicated Annikablog. And it's only two weeks late. Only. I think from now on I'll put most of the babynews over there, along with pictures (I wanted to upload more pictures but kept getting error messages last night). Although I'm not writing much, I've been reading. Mostly on the train to/from work. Since Annika was born:. Tangled Webs (Anne Bishop).

Fractal Metamorphosis: December 2009
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
On the Road to Somewhere. Wednesday, December 9, 2009. This is a chunk of a large article I found here. http:/ www.brainchildmag.com/essays/spring2004 feature.htm. The book that outlines MDS, Mother Nurture: A Modern Mom's Guide to a Healthy Body, Mind, and Intimate Relationships. Penguin, 2002), was written by psychologist Rick Hanson, nutritionist Jan Hanson, and OB/GYN Ricki Pollycove, the former chief of gynecology at California Pacific Medical Center. Together they're on a mission to bring MDS t...

Fractal Metamorphosis: As promised: pictures!
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2010/04/as-promised-pictures.html
Gardens and therapy, psychology, fiction. On the Road to Somewhere. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Don't get too excited; this whole posting of photos thing is not going to happen often. With that disclaimer, I know I've been all about the garden lately, but for those of you who like toddlers more than plants, I'll start with a few photos of Annika, taken by her grandpa Khavin:. And some more of Annika, taken by me:. Here's the first salad harvested from that mesclun mix. Yummy, although a little spicier...

Fractal Metamorphosis: November 2008
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
On the Road to Somewhere. Thursday, November 20, 2008. I'm at my parents' house today, having taken a day off to hang out with my brother who's home for a week. Brother and Mom are at the grocery store, and Annika is finally down for a nap, so I have a few minutes with nothing pressing to do. This is a very weird feeling. Not really sure what to do with myself. What do you like and dislike? How are you feeling and why? Then I have a lot more information input from Heather than I do from most of my close ...

Fractal Metamorphosis: January 2009
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
The Battle of the Bed. On the Road to Somewhere. Friday, January 30, 2009. The Battle of the Bed. Our first child is working hard to make certain that she will be our only child. My husband was horrified when I said, about a month ago, that I was no longer on board with whole 2-kids idea. But last night may have changed that, however incrementally. But we have 2 nights of baby-free sleep ahead of us (thanks to my wonderful parents! And that will most certainly help. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Fractal Metamorphosis: November 2009
http://fractalmetamorphosis.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
On the Road to Somewhere. Tuesday, November 3, 2009. When we first saw our house, there were several major factors that made me want it - a large yard and a kitchen I didn't hate, for instance. I could very easily explain why I wanted those, although in retrospect my ideas about the benefits of a large yard might, just might, have been based on wildly optimistic assumptions. Recently we've found one. That, I think, pretty much sums up the joy and pain of life with a toddler. Within the span of 15 min...
