Telecommuter Talk: Read, Think, Marvel
http://emilybarton.blogspot.com/2007/12/read-think-marvel.html
Ramblings of someone who was a telecommuting editor, then wasn't, and still has grand delusions of being a writer. Thursday, December 27, 2007. Read, Think, Marvel. By now, it’s no secret that when I was in my late teens and early twenties, I dabbled with expanding my mind through the use of illegal substances. Being the control freak that I am (oh, wait a minute, I’m not. Sometime during this period, I discovered Andrew Weil. Before Weil became the nutrition god he is today, he’d co-authored. So, I̵...

Telecommuter Talk: Fifty is Nifty #1

Ramblings of someone who was a telecommuting editor, then wasn't, and still has grand delusions of being a writer. Friday, June 13, 2014. Fifty is Nifty #1. When I turned 50 in February, I decided I was going to write 50 letters to 50 living authors whose works I love. I was also going to write 50 short stories. Recently, I decided I would add to those two goals with a third: trying 50 new things. Bob has listened to all this and made comments like,. My biggest obstacle, so far, has been reading books...
Telecommuter Talk: A Controversial Post
http://emilybarton.blogspot.com/2012/06/controversial-post.html
Ramblings of someone who was a telecommuting editor, then wasn't, and still has grand delusions of being a writer. Thursday, June 14, 2012. I realized, when I was working on my last post, that I don't have any controversial posts here at Telecommuter Talk that stick out in my mind. Courtney has recently made the decision to be a little more brave at The Public, The Private, and Everything In Between. And I've decided to. Wasn't that lonely growing up? Still, I'm not comfortable telling people that one re...
Telecommuter Talk: Federal Jury Duty: Day 1 (A Post Riddled with Bullet Points)
http://emilybarton.blogspot.com/2010/07/federal-jury-duty-day-1-post-riddled.html
Ramblings of someone who was a telecommuting editor, then wasn't, and still has grand delusions of being a writer. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Federal Jury Duty: Day 1 (A Post Riddled with Bullet Points). On the SEPTA train from the Thorndale to the Market St. East stations, I managed, out of all the empty seats in my car (needless to say, the train originates at Thorndale), to choose one in the same row as Mr. OCD Commuter's daily seat. How do I know he was Mr. OCD commuter? Random thought while sitting in...

My 2007 Book List. My 2008 Book List. Happy Mother’s Day! May 12, 2008 at 7:15 am. In honor of Mother’s Day, a poem by my Alice:. It’s Mother’s Day. It’s Mother’s Day, and I think to myself. What a nice little present I found on the shelf. I’ve looked and looked all through the store. And I’ve finally found what I was looking for. It looks so nice, it looks so pretty. It looks as cute as a little kitty. It’s red, and green, and around it is blue. From when it was tiny it grew and grew. A Work in Progress.

ZoesMom: December 2012
http://zoesmom.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Thoughts, ramblings, lots of Zoe. Its been two weeks since my life and my whole families lives were completely rocked by the shootings in Newtown. I can't quite believe it has only been two weeks. It feels like so much longer, but I am no closer to understanding or to feeling like some change has been enacted to prevent this. I know that both of those things are a long way off if they are even possible. A quick update on my family. It has been awhile. And for so little effort, it is a double bonus. I hav...

8221;it must give pleasure ” — Wallace Stevens. Skip to primary content. Submitting, Part 2. Saying Farewell To Illness. September 20, 2006. Yesterday morning, on my way into my office in San Francisco, I realized I was no longer in the fog I’d seemed to have fallen into when I learned I had breast cancer. This fog mostly seemed to involve eating a lot of mint chocolate chip ice cream, lying around reading, and thinking about mortality more than I usually do. I kept wanting to say,. Oh, bloglily, this po...

These posts are part of recurring series called “Write Right” that I started writing for my personal blog: The Sense of Me. Where Did my Creativity Go? Thinking about the creative process and what that entails for adults: can you really be creative at work? What happens to our creativity when we’re all grown up? Why does it seem so hard to be creative as an adult? It’s time for us to unlearn the writ...

The Book of Esther. Advice for Newer Writers. The Book of Esther. T]he project of the book placing a Biblical heroine in a version of the twentieth-century conflict that nearly obliterated Jewish culture raises complex questions about alternate history and mythology. You can read the whole review here. What if an empire of Jewish warriors that really existed in the Middle Ages had never fallen and was the only thing standing between Hitler and his conquest of Russia? Wal-Mart; 10:15pm
Monday, January 17, 2011. Walking into Wal-Mart 10:15pm. 8220;Welcome to Wal-Mart” muttered by a woman half asleep half dead. Fluorescent lights bathing my skin. I come to the vitamin aisle standing before countless bottles. To my right a girl and a mother. Brother is there too they search through the diet pills for daughter. How can she loose weight the fastest? To my right daughter is 13 at most and beautiful in body no need for this. Mother helps her find the right pill. Her at 13 at most maybe 12.
