Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander: The Osprey's Catch on Armand Bayou
http://emilysiwsiw.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-ospreys-catch-on-armand-bayou.html
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander. Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The Osprey's Catch on Armand Bayou. In my last blog post, I shared not-so-great photos of Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC), and mentioned I’d post more photos from that last-day-of-February visit. Repeating myself: none of the photos are stellar photos—but I was pleased with multiple “catches” of bird behavior. Today I wanted to share photos that show an Osprey with her almost too-big-to-handle catch of the day. I don’t know a lot a...
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander: Black & White and Blue All Over
http://emilysiwsiw.blogspot.com/2015/03/black-white-and-blue-all-over.html
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander. Sunday, March 1, 2015. Black and White and Blue All Over. I find the fast-moving, acrobatic flight of gulls and terns, against a blue sky, to be high on my list of photographic challenges. But these feathered ones make me smile behind the camera. Please click-on the photos for full screen viewing of these Laughing Gulls, viewed from the Texas City Dike:. A very rainy day; I envy the waterfowl. March 1, 2015 at 7:03 PM. Good photos, Emily! Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander: June 2014
http://emilysiwsiw.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander. Sunday, June 29, 2014. The Good Dog's Visit. I received a surprise phone call last week—an out-of-town relative was coming for a visit! Just when I was overwhelmed with sadness and frustration and loss of plan (over not yet owning an RV), the Good Dog came to town and gave me the best of his goodness. I had not seen this Good Dog in over a year; I’ve never spent a lot of time with him. I wasn’t sure if he would remember me. No gates are required! At my home, his Mo...
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander: August 2014
http://emilysiwsiw.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander. Thursday, August 28, 2014. The Willet's Shrimp Dinner. When my fingers are sufficiently sore from practicing mandolin, I return to my August “chore” of sorting and filing photographs from the past year. I’ve always grouped photos by date and locale, but this summer I’m undergoing a major project to create an additional filing of past bird photographs, grouped by bird name. It is great fun to go back through the years and see progress in photos and field techniques.
Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander: March 2014

Sometimes I Wonder, Sometimes I Wander. Monday, March 31, 2014. BBSP: The Spring Watercolors. I had opportunity this past week to visit the John Singer Sargent watercolor exhibition at the Houston Museum of Fine Art. His watercolor work is lovely and inspiring. And the day after, I was drawn to Mother Nature’s spring canvas at BBSP. I noted that She is quite extravagant with the yellow and green pallets of color, as if dressing the park for Easter. Sometimes the picture is the story. 8221; in 2014. And t...

Wednesday, May 21, 2014. It's all about the bathroom. When I was in high school, a lot of really smart and passionate people were working on an amendment that would make it unconstitutional to discriminate against women for being women. Looking back, it seems a reasonable corrective to the idea that all men were created equal, opening up the founding fathers' dream of America to include the other 50 percent. And their main reason for opposing those who opposed sexism? It was all about the bathroom. S...

A Brunette and a Criminal Walk Into a Bar
A Brunette and a Criminal Walk Into a Bar. March 30, 2011. Also, here is the CNN article posted: FDA weighs food dye, hyperactivity link. Isn’t there a bigger problem here than just some food coloring in processed products? For all of you social scientists out there, I found another great article this morning about sports injuries and how they relate to self-efficacy, meaning a person’s belief in their own competence. Check this one out too: What the Circus Can Teach Us About Sports Injuries. My personal...
