My first experience of martial arts was in the seventies studying Shotokan karate at a Chesterfield club in Derbyshire. More recently in 2010 I joined EMJJA studying under Professor Kyoju John Rake. East Midlands Jiu-Jitsu Association. Professor Kyoju John Rake. End of Year Presentations. Sutton in Ashfield Trip to Skegness. We’ve Won Medals! Members of the East Midlands Jiu Jitsu Association claimed medals in a National competition held at the University of Wolverhampton. Based at Dronfield, Clay Cross and Derby, the gold medal winners were Darren Kershaw, Steve Gilthorpe and Georgia Fowler. Head coach John Rake said he was proud of his students who had trained hard and fought well.

The first one being held on the first Sunday in March, 2nd grading June, 3rd grading September, and finally the last one of the year, December. I started in 1987 and have reached Black Belt 2nd Dan. In this time I taught and took part in competitions all over England.
