Suitcase Library
http://www.pigearpress.co.uk/Suitcase_Library.html
Originating from hours of coffee drinking and pondering over how best to present books in a gallery environment, the Suitcase Library was born. Some time ago at a poetry evening organised by. I was selling copies of Fire Island, a small book of poems I had just released by the writer. While I was selling books out of a carrier bag, there was a young gentleman who was selling books out of a suitcase with a hand printed sign to boot. Having sat down with the. Bottle of Smoke Press. Alongside these books th...

ART GIRL: March 2014
http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 27, 2014. Work in progress: Cupcake Tray. I made this three-tier cupcake tray for an exercise in Carla Sonheim's Watercolor Transfer Paintings online class. Then I decided to make a tray to hold the cupcakes and pulled out the purple/blue sheet made during a previous gelatin printing session - this was a 'waste' page where I brayered excess paint. I love the way it looks cut into strips. This is still in progress, I'm still going to add paint and marks and finish it up. Here are my charco...
I DREW THIS: April 2014
http://ilonadrewthis.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 29 April 2014. After living in Brighton for eight years now the time has come for me to take part in my first Open House, a month of artists all over Brighton coming together and throwing open doors and offering tea, cake and art, the perfect combination and also a great way to have a little nose inside some of Brightons lovely buildings too. Studio Greenhouse was lucky to be offered the use of a house on Montpelier Street and will be showing the work of fellow studio mates Tiffany Lynch. My nam...
ART GIRL: Fabric Postcard Tutorial
http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2009/03/fabric-postcard-tutorial.html
Saturday, March 14, 2009. Making fabric postcards is fun and easy. This tutorial shows how to create a quilted surface to adhere to a 4"x6" postcard, and embellish the fabric surface. First, start with a 4"x6" blank postcard (you can buy them at the art store, but you can also just cut white cardstock to size). You can also use blank greeting cards or anything else you want. Then, pick a fabric and some batting. I like Warm and Natural batting because it doesn't pill and is smooth and flat. Then, I stitc...

The House of Animal Consciousness. Looking West / Emma Brownjohn. I hope I show how vast and diverse our planet is by painting the changing seasons with all the colours and shapes they bring – busy cities brimming with people and architectural variety, or beaches dotted with the colours of summer, or the patterns and compositions described by the trees and fields in the countryside. ART GIRL: Striped Quilt Block Tutorial
http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2010/10/striped-quilt-block-tutorial.html
Saturday, October 2, 2010. Striped Quilt Block Tutorial. Here is a tutorial for making the striped blocks I've been posting about recently. In this tutorial, for every two nine-inch squares cut from your striped fabric, you will have two squares at the end, like the ones above, one with four pieces, and one with eight pieces. This shows the 9" strip having been cut away from the rest of the fabric. I made sure the cut ran parallel to the line. This is what it looks like when it has been cut. Repeat for t...

ART GIRL: Handbag for Sophia
http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.com/2007/11/handbag-for-sophia.html
Saturday, November 3, 2007. Sophia, my sister's youngest girl, likes polka dots right now. And she likes pink and yellow. I decided to try making a handbag. My friend Liz makes them so I asked for her help. She explained it to me over the phone and emailed photos to explain the especially counter-intuitive part about making the 'bottom' of the bag. Here is the bag I made for Sophia. It took about three hours. To make a bag like this, you'll need the following:. 2-Scissors; a pencil. Here is what the corn...
