A blog dedicated to birding around Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Saturday, 20 June 2015. The mid summer doldrums. Its that time of year on the patch where its slow going on the birding front. However, I enjoyed a leisurely 6 hours on the patch this afternoon, finding a few interesting bits and pieces, including a female Gadwall. With 4 ducklings on Mons Pool (not an annual breeder) and my first young Little Egret. Was purring near the works, and a Curlew. Red Kite but no Rosy Pastor. Less fortuitous ...

LENS Wildlife Group – caring about nature…. August 17, 2016. Coronation Meadow at Elvaston. A circular walk around the field on 22 July gave a count of 59 skippers, small and Essex , 2 large skippers, a brimstone, large white and green veined white, 14 gatekeepers, 29 meadow brown, 5 ringlets, and also some day flying moths, 6 spot burnet, silver Y and mother of pearl. I have never seen so many skippers. The invertebrates will be monitored and Clover Close will be the 81. Marion Bryce 17 August 2016.
