Life Beyond The Lines: September 2009
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Saturday, September 26, 2009. BBQ, Typhoons and Pomelo Heads. Moon Festival is tomorrow. Wearing pomelo rinds on your head. As demonstrated by these two, cute, adorable boys. Owen and Brandon, who used to be in Morning Kindergarten (a year ago when I taught them), are now in Miss Wendy's Kbr class. I honestly don't think these two could get any cuter. And they're both huggers. I love them. What's this doing in my pocket? Another tradition during Moon Festival is. We also fished....

Life Beyond The Lines: Okinawa, part I
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2009/10/okinawa-part-i.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Okinawa, part I. Back in May, Erin and I had an idea that we should go to Okinawa for my birthday. We thought it would have been a nice circle to be able to spend the day in the country, on the island where I was born. But life got busy, and things got in the way, plus the marathon was two weeks after my birthday. So we put it off. The streets and cities in Okinawa were so refreshingly clean! Erin had her first taste of bittermelon. Next, we went to visit ...

Life Beyond The Lines: December 2008
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Some pictures from the last day of school. Dustin dressed up as Santa Claus for Morning Kindergarten, and the kids were amazed, mystified, and confused by this strange old man in a red suit. They loved him. Rex and Cooper (below) had no idea who Santa was, and both were very confused/scared of him. It must've been his long white beard. As he ate the gingerbread man's nose. Kbr and their gingerbread men. Megan and her student on the last day of classes.

Life Beyond The Lines: Last Days In Taiwan
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2010/02/last-days-in-taiwan.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Last Days In Taiwan. These are just some photos from my last few months in Taiwan. This picture is of the last group of teachers and secretaries I was with during my last semester. Most teachers only stayed for their contract of 6 months, but a few stayed for a year. Erin and I were the teachers that stayed the longest at a year and a half. Erin is going on for two years! Last picture of Erin and me at the airport. Leaving Taiwan for the last time.

Life Beyond The Lines: October 2008
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Thrust into Deep Waters. I'm currently reading a book called, "Leaving Deep Waters: The Lives of Asian American Women at the Crossroads of Two Cultures". At first, I was a little put off by it because although I know. I'm "Asian American," even getting that label is strange to me. It's refreshing to read about these other experiences because they validate my own, and bring to light other instances my counterparts may never really encounter. I just bought...

Life Beyond The Lines: July 2008
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Thursday, July 17, 2008. For Kids Who Don't Read Good. I need new flip-flops. Ones that aren't intent on killing me, or think it's funny when I totally biff face-first on the ground. Just some good, simple, sturdy rubba-slippas would be nice. It was the funniest thing they ever saw (if slippas could laugh, they would have). N Maui, and because mom and dad grew up on the islands, most of the time I totally don't realize my kids are speaking incorrect English because I just revert to...

Life Beyond The Lines: November 2008
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Sunday, November 30, 2008. My poor fifth graders. I haven't done a post on them yet. Maybe it's because they're older and shun photo-taking opportunities, or maybe it's because they look like this in my class (see below). They chose a wide variety of foods that included m&ms and wasabi (because they thought it was funny). I thought their presentation went very well. Each of my student had a speaking part that they memorized, and did a pretty darn good job on their board....In al...

Life Beyond The Lines: January 2009
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Saturday, January 31, 2009. I remember getting Dex in Alaska because his owners were just going to drown him. They didn't want him. He came with us from Alaska to Colorado to Hawaii. He was such an active pup with funny quirks - always on the move, loving to chase things and hating when I'd dress him up. Pain medication seemed to help for a while, and at times we could see that same goofy smile come out that he had as a pup. But then, he was always a pup. We took x-rays. We transfe...

Life Beyond The Lines: April 2009
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Wednesday, April 22, 2009. With 7 out of 10 toenails still intact. Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from my editor at the Salt Lake Trib, to see if they still want an personal essay-type thing. I'm really hoping they do; it'd bring so much more attentio. To the cause than the website I have up.which is still pretty ghetto. Before writing the article, I didn't really see how amazing this charity is - Halfthesky.org. Ue, creative individuals who have so much potential in life.

Life Beyond The Lines: August 2009
http://lifebeyondthelines.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Life Beyond The Lines. Sunday, August 30, 2009. Chess, Pirates, and Goodbyes. My last few weeks with my First Grade class. Dawson and Tim in the back, Amy and Fiona next to me). We covered the concepts of treasure, pirates, puzzles and passwords. Last semester, with Mr. Joseph and for the graduation theme, my kids participated in a song/dance/skit, performing a song called, Shiver Me Timbers. And would often burst into song during my class. Dawson and his hook ). The sisters. And Dawson ). We had a rule ...
