Erin in Malawi

Saturday, May 19, 2007. I never heard the rooster after 7am, but I am assuming that it made it to its destination safe and sound and did not perish under the bus. It was as if our plane transported us back to the ancient kingdom of Persia with caliphs and sultans. I started feeding the one closest to me; it was a unique experience. The tortoise’s neck extended out of its shell about 2 feet! Pictures to follow, I promise! Posted by Erin @ 8:15 AM. View my complete profile. Malawian of the Month, February.

Erin in Malawi: December 2006

http://www.erininmalawi.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 16, 2006. Sorry for not having any posts this month. I have not had internet and hydro access for quite sometime which makes it difficult to write. I know that you all must be busy getting ready for the Christmas season by buying all sorts of presents and holiday outfits, not to mention the loads of parties that come with the Holiday's. Please know that I am thinking of you often, probably more then I should and I miss you all many different ways. Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Erin in Malawi: January 2007

http://www.erininmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 29, 2007. She baked us BROWNIES! This is what I was shouting in the car as I opened a gift from (friend/co-worker to Jason) Mina, who had graciously given us her RAV4 for the holiday even though she had owned it for less then a month. Jason, Trina and I sat at the mountainous Malawi-Zambia border and rationed out the brownies while waiting for. Arrived at the border and our Road Trip was about to begin. We drove 8 hours south in the pouring rain to. The former capital city of. As we were ...

Thursday, June 29, 2006. Saturday, May 28. 2006 we set an Engineers Without Borders record by raising just under $15 000 in less then 30 days. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our families and friends. Thanks to you all of you who helped out and contributed to EWB. Jason and I arrived in. And tried to settle into our new home for the next month. The EWB house is. Located in, you guessed it, Little Portugal! What are the odds of that? I thought I left little. Training for one week. Kyla in Malawi: Poem from Amos

http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007/08/poem-from-amos.html

Monday, August 20, 2007. When you came here. Stories you could hear. Are of the programmes. And of the people. Stories that brought joy. You nearly dropped a tear. That was in May. Long last you opened your way. Together we have done evaluation. Together we have crossed rivers. Together we have inhaled dust. Something we shan’t do together in August. Then the globe turned July. Your months stay counted three. You were as free. As a bird in a tree. This proved your unique. Soon you are going back to Canada.

Kyla in Malawi: April 2007

http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 29, 2007. The following are some questions I have been asked. Malawi is in south east Africa. It borders with Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia. Where in Malawi will you be? I will be working in a small town called Bwanje. It is hard to find on many maps (you wont find it on google maps). The closest city is Nitcheu, which is about 30km south west of Bwanje. Will you have electricity or running water? How will you communicate with people in your host community? Will it be really hot there?

Kyla in Malawi: June 2007

http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 23, 2007. Has found that development projects are much more successful when they include the participation of both men and women in the community. Gender inequality is major issue in rural Malawi. Often the women are over burdened with work, and are not involved in finical. Decisions. Harvest time is particularly bad, as the men get a relatively large amount of cash that is not always. Spent in the best interests of whole household. Money is wasted on beer, cigarettes. It is hard to say ho...

Communication here is very difficult. The nearest Internet. Is 50km from my house, and phone network is limited. I apologise. Previously Namachenja M...

Monday, August 13, 2007. I haven't seen any lions, hippos, or zebras here in Malawi, but I have seen lots of bugs and lizards.
