Are they still alive?: Day 40
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-40.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. After the big scare we decided we should spend some time doing some damage control and prevention. Linds and I went to the Capitanarie's office to get as many phone numbers as possible of future ports that we might stay at. We found out there is something called the "Blue Pages" which is the "Yellow Pages" of the Italian sailing world. Something that would have come in handy about a month ago. It is bright blue lighting up the water. Linds and I swam to t...

Are they still alive?: Day 38
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-38.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. It was another scorcher of a day for sight seeing. The Torre del Greco port that we are staying at is located at the base of Mt. Vesuvious which is the legendary volcano that erupted in 79AD (burrying entire cities nearby including Pomepii and Herculanuem, and expanding the coastline a few miles). The sun was really cooking us. After the eruption 2000 people were entombed under eight feet of fine powder. What surprised me was to see so much color everywhere.

Are they still alive?: Day 39
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-39.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. Today is Dad's 57th birthday! And what a memorable one it turned out to be! Warning: Mom, you might not want to read this one*. It was full as expected and we found a buoy not far from the harbor to tie up to. We used the dingy for the first time and Dad rowed us to shore from the boat. (please note that every other dingy in the entire country has a motor, but we have oars—something I have tried several times to address but to no avail). We found a great rest...

Are they still alive?: Day 46
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-46.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 12, 2007. We actually left Tropea this time. We said goodbye to all our English speaking friends and the cute town and headed out. The swells were still pretty big this morning but once we got to the strait they seemed to flatten out a little. (this is Messina). We were all a little nervous about going through the strait with rumors of whirlpools and mixed up water and currents, but it turned out to be a piece of cake. Just a lot of traffic to watch out for.

Are they still alive?: Day 44
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-44.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. Happy 4th of July! No fireworks or BBQs today, but we did have a great relaxing day at the beach. The weather was so hot today! We read, and swam in the waves, and went snorkeling a little bit in the ocean. We saw a lot of tropical looking fish really close to shore. The beach here is beautiful. In the evening we walked up the big switchback staircase again into town for dinner. We found a great trattorie with excellent food. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Are they still alive?: Day 48
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-48.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 12, 2007. Today we woke up early and left the boat at around 8:00 to try to find church. The GPS took us to the right place. It was only about a 30 minute walk. The meeting times for this branch were not listed on the church website but we ended up arriving just a few minutes early. Monica's adorable four year old daughter made friends with Lindsay. She sat on Lindsay's lap and shared all her toys for most of Sunday School and Sacrament meeting. I miss you guys!

Are they still alive?: Day 36
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-36.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. We left this morning for San Felice Circeo, a long sail day that will put us halfway to Pompeii. The weather was nice and sunny. But the water was really rough. I tried to relax and thought I was doing okay but the waves finally got to me and I barfed. :( I found the best remedy was to just try and sleep on my bed. It was a long day. Tomorrow I'm using one of those motion sickness patches for sure! It said you had to put it on the night before).

Are they still alive?: Day 49
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-49.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 12, 2007. Next stop, Gallipoli. It's about and 8 hour sail from Crotone. The waves were a little rough at first but calmed down towards the afternoon. We crossed the huge bay today at the bottom of the boot. There was a while where we couldn't see land which was good practice for crossing the Ionian Sea in a few days. We had 3 dolphins come again and swim with our boat. Bec dove off the front of the boat. Then we went up to town and walked around a bit.

Are they still alive?: Day 35
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-35.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. We were supposed to leave Rome this morning for the next port, but we decided to stay one more day to catch up on stuff like laundry, groceries, trips to the hardware store, etc. The grocery store trip was also quite successful. We got so much stuff that they let us borrow the carts to get everything back to the boat. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On May 21st we left our jobs and lives behind to set sail on the Mediterranean Sea. View my complete profile.

Are they still alive?: Day 37
http://aretheystillalive.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-37.html
Are they still alive? Thursday, July 5, 2007. This morning we got up early for a long sail day early to Pompei. The water was rough again so Linds and I tried wearing patches for the motion sickness. They knocked us out but did the trick. We arrived in Porto Terre Del Greco around 4:00 pm. And some guys waved us into a spot that looked too narrow. They moved one boat over to fit us on the end. With the help of about 5 other people, we squeezed in. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
