Ethical Eating: Take Rest

http://ethicaleatingspokane.blogspot.com/2011/09/take-rest.html

A blog about eating ethically in an urban setting. Sunday, September 4, 2011. Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop- Ovid. It’s Labor Day weekend, which many of us associate with the last days of summer. A week or so ago I was asked to write something to be cross-posted on my blog and on my friend Deb’s business’s website—Roast House. There is likely a lot of work to do on farms on Monday. Labor Day in the US started over 100 years ago as a sort of day of thanks to those who work hard...

Ethical Eating: Taking a Fall

http://ethicaleatingspokane.blogspot.com/2011/09/taking-fall.html

A blog about eating ethically in an urban setting. Saturday, September 10, 2011. It's getting toward the middle of September and I am getting ready for a trip to the East Coast during my sabbatical which will last one month. And I am getting nervous. Not about the trip so much as what will I miss the this next month at the farmer's market? Full freezer, very full. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Ethical Eating: January 2011

http://ethicaleatingspokane.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

A blog about eating ethically in an urban setting. Sunday, January 23, 2011. Ellen's Test Kitchen- French Toast. So I am in the middle of testing those two recipes I mentioned in my last post- baked brioche french toast and polenta mushroom diamonds. Finished product. Delish! I was a little concerned this was too brown! Boy, is it good. The outside was just a little bit crispy and the inside was custardy, soft and moist. And no frying! Bread Maker Brioche (1 1/2 pound loaf). 1 stick of softened butter.

Ethical Eating: Philly Cheese What?

http://ethicaleatingspokane.blogspot.com/2011/08/philly-cheese-what.html

A blog about eating ethically in an urban setting. Monday, August 1, 2011. What's the best part of a Philly Cheese Steak? For some it is probably the steak, for others that drippy cheese, but for me, it is the grilled veggies. Love those grilled green peppers, onions and I add mushrooms. The onion and green pepper were organic from the farmers market - who cares if the green peppers were a little small? Perfect for the grill! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). One Woman's Meals. Cooking, culture and conversation in the Inland Northwest. About Me and My Food. Yet again, food writer (and farmer) Tom Philpott wades right into the discussion with his post on Grist.org, The American Diet in One Chart. Working with data provided by the Civil Eats. Spokarnivore: November 2010

http://spokarnivore.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 13, 2010. Italian food worth getting excited about. The scene in Spokane has been pretty bleak. The Italian Kitchen has a standard menu, and what I've had there has been competent, but it is so expensive. Why would I spend twenty five dollars on a plate that I could make, better, at home, in twenty minutes with a dollar or two worth of ingredients? I had a lovely meal in Coeur D'Alene at Angelo's last year, but even that was safely Italian-American. Labels: Italia Trattoria review.

One Woman's Meals. Cooking, culture and conversation in the Inland Northwest. About Me and My Food. A toast to good company - a very young me and Uncle Gordon, more than 30 years ago. Yikes. I used to have a cookbook of traditional Southern-style recipes, but it disappeared in one move or another in my past. So, I turned to the trusty Interwebs and found a recipe. One Woman's Meals. Cooking, culture and conversation in the Inland Northwest. About Me and My Food. Don’t Skip the Squash. Sauteed butternut squash with a hint of ginger. I just realized that despite posting nearly 1,500 words the other day, I forgot to mention anything about my new favorite vegetable: sautéed butternut squash. Here’s the photo and a quick rundown. I’ve also used this same method with sweet potatoes, and it is equally delicious. 2 Responses to “Don’t Skip the Squash”. About Me and My Food.

An Omnivore's Decision

My journey toward an ethical food lifestyle. Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Waste not, want not. Since moving to Arizona, I’ve been wondering what to do with my food scraps. As I’ve written about before. Food scraps don’t biodegrade in landfills because that process requires airflow. Instead, food scraps petrify. Between 30% and 40%. And food waste was a talking point during last year’s World Food Day. Held by the United Nations. Stan, from Recycled City, takes our food scraps and leaves us a fresh bucket.
