Thursday, 12 April 2007. Still in rainy Austria . As a bit of a remedy to the Thorlerbahn video, this is a video of the Mixnitz-St Erhard. Line, which is still with us! Thorlerbahn - a recently closed Austrain NG line. Unusually this Austrian narrow gauge. Line closed as recently as 1999, and has now been lifted. From the video it looks like it took a typically scenic route. Excuse the translation - the original website is in French. You may find the original easier to understand! There is now a society.

Tuesday, 15 May 2007. A lost southern line. There are few really rural lines left in Britain, this was Watergate Halt on the old Torrington to Halwill. Line, which retained a freight service into the 1980s. This shot was taken in 1980. The line had closed to passengers as late as 1965, it was also one of the last standard gauge lines to open in Britain. The line is now unfortunately lifted throughout, although the northern section of the route from Bideford to Barnstaple. OUR BLOG FAMILY .

Friday, 20 April 2007. Yay - we're off to Pontins, not using Sun vouchers but because we got a special offer as loyal customers. If only they knew we went there solely as Chav Spotters! We were there last August bank holiday and were in ecstacy as an endless parade of chavs smoking and clutching their Suns paraded past in little more than string vests, baggy shorts and sandals with socks. Such a contrast to our more usual naturist places, or posh hotels (where of course we go Prefect Spotting).

Thursday, 29 March 2007. This would be an ideal picture for a caption competition. This is some sort of monk spotted in a footie club who appears either to have died or entered a semi-trance state. Note smoker behind! Taking the bus to town. Sometimes a group of chavs just can't manage to steal a car in time and have to resort to using the bus. The oil-producers realise that shortages in the market will simply increase the price they get - why waste billions building refineries that will never recoup their costs? Keep supply tight and the price will rise. The demand for petrol is very inelastic like most 'distress' purchases, consumers will find the extra - even if it cuts other spending in the wider economy. Expect rationing in the UK within 3 to 5 years.

Wednesday, 16 May 2007. Unfortunately we had to drive to Hampshire on business today. Part of the route is along the A34 and we were amazed by the number of car transporters we passed. What on earth are we thinking of? There is no reason at all for these to block our roads, waste oil and add to climate change. These could all have been carried on ONE train as they were obviously heading towards Southampton, probably for export. And they were all 4x4s! And what idiots are buying them? House Price Crash UK.

Tuesday, 24 April 2007. These horrific scenes were on the A37 in Pensford a few days ago. They outline very clearly why our roads are such a dsiaster area. Ironically not 200 metres to the right there is an abandoned section of railway, moronically closed in 1968 due to flood damage, even though the road suffered just as much if not more. Wednesday, 15 October 2008. Exit from Palma is via a little street running then onto reservation. The stock is all original from the early 20th century - with wood much in evidence. Rainy Soller station - the tramway is to the right. The tram near Soller station. A real gem on Majorca is the Palma-Soller railway,. Which we visited last Thursday.
