The Evolving Epicurean: Easter Rising

http://evolvingepicurean.blogspot.com/2013/04/easter-rising.html

It only seems fitting that I start this blog back up again at Easter. My family came down this weekend for Easter. I love my family. I love holidays. However, I do not love trying to figure out what to make. For holidays. My sister doesn't like things that rhyme with "am" (ham, lamb, salm. Pancetta, lamb, and pork simmering.does it get better than this? Cutting the gnudi rope. Prepped and ready to boil. Served with plenty of asparagus, to stave off that wine hangover. Wife tested, husband approved. 2 tab...

The Evolving Epicurean: Thai Curry with Sweet Potatoes and Tofu

http://evolvingepicurean.blogspot.com/2013/04/thai-curry-with-sweet-potatoes-and-tofu.html

Thai Curry with Sweet Potatoes and Tofu. Since we're in the final months of saving. And employment), we've been trying to eat at home more frequently, which unfortunately means Friday night, too. In a past life, Friday would be our date night or just a night I didn't have to cook. But considering we dropped $40 on date night to a sandwich place a few weeks back, that can't happen too often. Did you know coconut milk does not. Fluff up when whipped? Me neither), we still have a couple cans. Vegan, but the...

The Evolving Epicurean: Thanksgiving Recap

http://evolvingepicurean.blogspot.com/2012/11/thanksgiving-recap.html

Just a few shots of some of my Thanksgiving day treats! I didn't take any pictures, I was too busy cooking for 14(! Luckily my mom took a few. Thanks mom! Appetizer: Spanish tortilla with aioli. Appetizer: bacon, bleu cheese, and spinach stuffed mushrooms. Mmmdeep dish apple pie. No shots, sadly, of the delicious herb bread stuffing, Brussels sprouts with bacon and pecans, or green beans with fried shallots. 26 November, 2012 09:25. It was a wonderful dinner - thank you for letting us be a part of it!

The Evolving Epicurean: Christmas Dinner & a Farewell (for now)

http://evolvingepicurean.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-dinner-farewell-for-now.html

Christmas Dinner and a Farewell (for now). This past Christmas was a strange one. We got to see lots of family, including my sweet little grandma, who I adore. We had some great food and reintroduced an old family tradition of doing cold cuts and deli salads for Christmas Eve. It was all very hard without my brother around, though. Sauteed green beans in browned butter, mushrooms, and filet mignon with bleu cheese and chive butter. As if filet mignon wasn't decadent enough, had to throw in the bleu cheese.

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Cycling Zen: Random Thoughts While Road Riding. In case you're wondering, am I still riding my bike lots and lots? I don't have too much new to report other than I'm still riding but it's getting hot. I have, however, created the following list of the strange things that go through my head:. I love this weather! I hate this f*cking wind. Was that a camel? Pole Dancing: OC ...

Behind the Orange Curtain: I'm Kind of Older Than I Was When I Reveled Without a Care

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. I'm Kind of Older Than I Was When I Reveled Without a Care. This, among other things, have given me pause for reflection. It happened earlier this year at a music festival. In 2001, was too cool to dance to the grooves of Outkast's Sorry Miss Jackson. I am for real. So there you have it. Not moving the maturity toggle up or down either. Your life is half over! Your life is...

Behind the Orange Curtain: Manly Beach, Sydney - A Perfect Day

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Manly Beach, Sydney - A Perfect Day. Today's post was inspired by my friend Maggie's post: A Perfect Day, Krakow. The day began with a "long black" coffee and muesli with yogurt at Jet. A cafe in the QVB (Queen Victoria Building). The cafe is located just behind the statue of Queen Victoria where sometimes there are skinny teenagers performing Beatles tunes. I spent the su...

Behind the Orange Curtain: Solving Problems and Staying Safe - Using 90's Gangster Rap

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Solving Problems and Staying Safe - Using 90's Gangster Rap. I was up in LA on Sunday and I ran into a problem. which I solved by listening to 90s gangster rap. I found myself in Hollywood and wanted to take the 405 freeway home. Since I visit LA only two or three times a year: I'm not very familiar with the area and where it's safe or not safe. Here's what I know:. From t...

Behind the Orange Curtain: Is Trader Joe's Cheaper or More Expensive Than a Supermarket?

http://www.themadhapa.com/2012/04/is-trader-joes-cheaper-or-more.html

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Is Trader Joe's Cheaper or More Expensive Than a Supermarket? Comparing Trader Joe's Prices to Supermarket Prices. I've long been a Trader Joe's devotee and do most of my shopping there. I regularly get two bags of food for less than $50. At Ralph's, $50 buys less than a basketful. This is the place where you can get a case of wine for $24.99! Here are the results:. The co...

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Scuba Diving Indonesian Borneo: Derawan Maratua Sangalaki. For better or worse: it's impossible for me to find a scuba diving destination where someone I know hasn't already been there done that. So when I stumbled upon the islands of Derawan, Sangalaki and Maratua in Indonesian Borneo and my co-workers said, where? I knew I had a winner. The one thing I have to get over i...

Behind the Orange Curtain: A Grrrlz Mix for an Actual Girl

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. A Grrrlz Mix for an Actual Girl. Last month, a friend of mine mentioned that his pre-school aged daughter was really into songs sung by a female vocalist. Of course I volunteered to make her the ultimate chick mix. It was only I after I created a short list of 150 songs that I realized I was in over my head. Seems a little wrong. Creedence, Croce and the like), so I went f...

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Disneyland Has Proved I Have No Inner Child. Not too long ago I went to Disneyland - my first visit since moving to Orange County. I'll spare you the details of how and why. All you need to know is that it was work-sponsored. After that I made my dad go on It's a Small World eight times. What can I say? When I moved to Orange County, Disneyland ranked at the bottom of my l...

Behind the Orange Curtain: Dad Rock and What Makes Your Musical Taste

http://www.themadhapa.com/2011/03/dad-rock-and-what-makes-your-musical.html

Behind the Orange Curtain. These are the random thoughts of a half-asian person (aka Mad Hapa) who lives in Orange County California. Dad Rock and What Makes Your Musical Taste. When I was seven years old I loved Debbie Gibson, Belinda Carlisle and Madonna. I couldn't understand why my dad made me listen to Jimmy Buffet, Van Morrison, and Paul Simon. It was soooo embarrassing. Especially when he sang along. Hadn't he heard those songs a million times when they first came out? Okay, this is not news.

Where the grass is greener. Thursday, April 30, 2015. One of the greatest joys I have ever experienced is a particularly powerful aspect of my relationship with Kris: teamwork. Even reminiscing back to when we were first dating, I remember remarking to my best lady friends how I was always in awe at this kinship Kris and I had, this ability to hear each other out and figure it out, together. Aspect of contagious behavior. Thursday, April 23, 2015. You bet I am! Mom, you're the most beautiful girl I ever ...

Back in July (I know, I know) we had a three week break in between camp sessions. Almost every one I know was out of town. Thankfully, two of my favorite people stayed here, and the three of us set of on my first, glorious camping trip in Kenya. Playing up the green with color shot. We camped at Carnelleys. Which was just the right amount of camping and the right amount of hippo fencing, you know? Krystle and I shared this blue gem, while Andrew was an man-venturer and slept in a hammock. Has, no less!
