expateek: June 2009
http://expateek.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Ah well. Can't sleep. More about my West Coast road trip, shall we? Here's one of my marvelous friends. She lives in a beautiful and weird little house. We've known each other for about 15 years,. And people often confuse one of us with the other. Or they did when we lived in the same town. Oddly, we've "lived in the same town" on two different continents,. So there've been many opportunities for mistaken identity. Fortunately, we both live such upright, moral lives. Here is Franc...

Friday, March 5, 2010. When everything finally shifts, just a little bit. Many of you will be surprised when I tell you that I have not always been the glamorous, fashionable and worldly sophisticate you see before you today. No, far from it. Instead, I was the whipping girl of the 7th and 8th grade at Madison West Junior High. Mocked, laughed at, and reviled. They've gotten it out of their systems! And I would be sucked in once more, only to be washed up on the shores of despair again a few weeks later.
expateek: April 2010

Thursday, April 15, 2010. Sunday afternoon at the Tattoo and Ink festival - because Tiger Woods and I are soooooo over, Masters or not. The money I took out of the ATM in Albuquerque during my little weekend away didn't entirely get spent at the New Mexico " Immersed in Ink. Tattoo Festival. Can you believe it? Me neither. That dough was burning a hole in my pocket, fo' sho'. Pound lighter. Big surprise. Maybe all those refried beans and beers had some kind of catalytic effect? Tennis matches to play!

Sunday, July 26, 2009. Guaranteed, if you've lived abroad for seven years, then returning to your home country will be a bit of a shock. It's not just jet lag you have to adjust to, it's culture shock as well. And that culture shock will be especially astonishing to you because it's your own culture. Gosh darn it. Who knew things could change so much back home? So for me, the jury's still out on BlogHer 2009. It seemed to combine the worst aspects of America's rampant consumerism with every stereotype th...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Screaming and rending of clothing. Is pretty sure you could hear her screaming and shrieking from wherever. In the world you happen to be right now. Because when she picked up Mr D from work yesterday, he hopped in the car, and said, " Turn the car off for a sec. I have something to tell you.". Turned off the car. This conversational opening is never. Good, not when it comes from Mr D. Mr D looked both excited and afraid. Excited about the opportunity. Afraid of expateek. Mr D sc...

Words Denigrating Masculinity | Wars & Sawa
https://sylwiaofwarsaw.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/words-denigrating-masculinity
Read: Vars and Sahvah. May 4, 2009. It’s something I’ve been wondering about for some time. There’s an argument about the double standard based on the language and custom. I.e. while there are words denigrating women – comparing them to prostitutes – there are no male equivalents. Some of the mildest ones are. Means ‘flirt’, and this one has a female equivalent. From Don Juan, and. From Casanova can have the same meaning. 8211; flatterer – deprecates for lack of dignity. Its female form. In Poland means ...

Friday, January 15, 2016. A little bit of London. I've been laughing out loud at this great new Adele video. Let's see if I still remember how to embed a link! I've been an Adele fan for a couple of years, listening to "25" on repeat with a friend of mine until we knew every song inside and out. It's impossible to be "Adele-ed out" but we almost. Got there. Fortunately, not quite. So here's a great way to start out your morning. Hysterically funny, plus. Links to this post. Sunday, June 27, 2010. Jonatha...

Sie entsenden Mitarbeiter ins Ausland. Ich unterstütze Sie. - Expateer
