Father/kids finding nature w/in the city. Every Monday, I post a quote from an article, book, or elsewhere that expresses someone’s thoughts about connecting children to nature. I always give and link to sources because I am a firm believer that quotes should never be disconnected to the person who wrote it. You can see those posts here. Click to email (Opens in new window). the Nature of Portland: Elk Rock Island: Nature on the Willamette
http://thenatureofportland.blogspot.com/2011/02/elk-rock-island.html
The Nature of Portland Store. Friday, February 18, 2011. Elk Rock Island: Nature on the Willamette. To get to Elk Rock Island (unless you have a boat), you first have to go to Milwaukie's recently improved Spring Park. Take the trail toward the Willamette River. The short, dirt trail leads through the woods to a low, rocky area which - during the winter high water months - is actually underwater. Hence, the name, Elk Rock Island. Tree silhouetted against the Willamette. 8226; Willamette River Floodplain.
