Elixir Vitae: Things I've Learned from Bartenders: Radler Stiegl
http://violentfermentation.blogspot.com/2015/06/things-ive-learned-from-bartenders.html
Personal and idiosyncratic comments on the vital elixirs of life, primarily wine and spirits, but including whatever else I deem important or necessary, as the mood strikes me. Friday, June 12, 2015. Things I've Learned from Bartenders: Radler Stiegl. But now, there’s a new thing. Fizzy/fruity beer/soda. Have you heard of Radler Stiegl. What whatsit, you say? Or the exotic Mezcal Vago. With Tequila, the Radler Stiegl is a total winner- -tequila and grapefruit are a natural marriage, soul mates, one compl...

Elixir Vitae: Rum Club: a Treffehn Trifecta

Personal and idiosyncratic comments on the vital elixirs of life, primarily wine and spirits, but including whatever else I deem important or necessary, as the mood strikes me. Thursday, June 11, 2015. Rum Club: a Treffehn Trifecta. So I’m meeting Justin Siemer, bartender buddy, late night at the Rum Club. Is at the bar, headband already soaked in sweat, moving as fast as he can in the rushes, taking the spare moments to relax in between. And there aren’t a lot of spare moments. You can also use Squirt.

Elixir Vitae: January 2015

Personal and idiosyncratic comments on the vital elixirs of life, primarily wine and spirits, but including whatever else I deem important or necessary, as the mood strikes me. Friday, January 9, 2015. Let us speak of Ruché. Let us speak with fondness and respect of Ruché. Or to be correct and giving due credit, Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato. An altogether delightful and charming red wine, unpretentious yet satisfying, amiable and accommodating, either as a sipper or a dinner companion. Ruché is that ra...

Food and Wine of the World: February 2011
http://mvecin.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Had a chance to finally taste the famous 'Tantanmen' ren of Ukkokei. This is only served at 6 PM and only a limited number of bowls per day. 10 bowls is the maximum. This is different from the others ones I've tried. Sort of creamy, oily, nutty with lots of sesame seeds and probably sesame oil. It's a little spicy but bearable. Sunday, February 6, 2011. We started off with a Gordon Biersch Hefeweisen fr my friend, a very light Belgian type beer. I had a Southern Tier IPA...

Food and Wine of the World: La Girolle
http://mvecin.blogspot.com/2011/12/la-girolle.html
Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Had a quick lunch today at La Girolle, the new restaurant of Chef Ian Padilla located at the Fort near Burgos circle. The menu changes weekly, so whatever was featured here may not be in the menu anymore by next week. For main, Sous vide pork belly. Not sure how long this was cooked but probably over 20 hours. Very tender pork with crackling crispy skin. This came with mashed potatoes a la Robuchon (very creamy and lots of butter). Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone.

Food and Wine of the World: July 2011
http://mvecin.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 5, 2011. I've been quite obsessed lately with bacon. A few weeks ago, I did my first batch of home made Guanciale (still no results since this has to be cured 45 days). Since the Guanciale takes so long, I decided to try making regular bacon (thank you to my friend Charlie for the tips). I'm not going to go step by step on how I made it since this is not really that type of blog, so I'll just go over generally on what I did. Once done, I let the pork rest for 2 hours, wrapped it and left in...

Seqouia and Kings Canyon Photo Gallery. We kept pretty busy here. One cave tour, climbed Moro Rock, (not for the squeamish if heights freak you out at all), trip down Kings Canyon. What an amazing view! Anyhow, this is truly one of the most beautiful places to visit I have ever been. Restaurants Rally for Italy Earthquak...
