Farm Girl Musings: Finally!!! Part Three

http://farmgirlmusings.blogspot.com/2010/01/finally-part-three.html

Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The next few days were full of surprises for me.  All this time I’d thought that I was supposed to be short of breath after strolling around the couch ten times! 160; I hadn’t been able to lay on my sides to sleep at night and my back was beginning to scream about that but suddenly side sleeping was not only possible but the best way to sleep.  Once again I was lulled into thinking I was on the mend. 160; Greg’s surgery has been approved! Farm Girl Musings: November 2009

http://farmgirlmusings.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 8, 2009. End of the year wrap-up. Okay, it's not the end of the year but as I'm still riding the high of thanking the Earth Goddess for the wonderful harvest this year and I'm starting to plan next year's garden I thought I'd do a little recap of the year's garden winners. Once again, my beloved Mom's Paste did not let me down. Each plant set hundreds of giant, udder-shaped, excellent tasting pastes that gave each batch of tomato sauce a slightly sweet, fresh tomato taste. If I c...Now f...

Farm Girl Musings: June 2009

http://farmgirlmusings.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 26, 2009. Stolen from another blog. Just in case you are having a rough day, here is a stress management technique recommended in all the latest psychological journals. The funny thing is that it really does work and will make you smile. 1 Picture yourself lying on your belly on a warm rock that hangs out over a crystal clear stream. 2 Picture yourself with both your hands dangling in the cool running water. 3 Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air. Friday, June 12, 2009. Greg is...

Blue Feather Micro-Farm: March 2012

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Potatoes grown in containers were a fail. but we did get a small harvest of purple viking potatoes from an in ground patch. Not sure if we will plant those again, but if I do it will be IN GROUND for sure. Looking forward to 2012, if the spring weather doesn't turn, the gardens should be very productive. If it does go south, we have a small supply of frost blankets at the ready. Stay tuned for more photos, gardening tips, recipes and more. Tuesday, March 27, 2012. We are gettin...

Blue Feather Micro-Farm: March 2011

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Seed shopping in the food isle. Everyone knows you can buy seeds in those cute little seed packets in the garden center. But you can also get great garden seeds from packages of food in the grocery store. I've had great luck at the local Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocer. Their bulk beans, seeds and grains usually come in 1 lb bags, move quickly enough to ensure freshness, and are even organic. Other stores will have bulk beans and seeds or prepackaged bags, just make sure t...I pla...

Blue Feather Micro-Farm: June 2011

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The coturnix quail are 2 1/2 weeks now. Since they can be laying eggs as soon as 5 weeks I guess this makes them teenagers. Their baby fuzz is almost gone and so far they all look like girls! One may surprise me, but i guess it is time to start thinking up girl's names. Sunday, June 12, 2011. Friday, June 10, 2011. Blue Feather Micro-Farm: May 2011

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Here are the new coturnix quail we picked up from Kiowa Kountry Korner. They are extremely active and very healthy. Since they are straight run, we have no idea who is a boy or girl, so no names yet. Like most children, they really seem to enjoy playing with their food. These are the three girls we are keeping from Abby's hatch. They have already been named so I will introduce you to Amy Farrah Fowler (left), Bernadette (center) and Penny (right). Blue Feather Micro-Farm: Bale Fail

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2011/06/bale-fail.html

Sunday, June 12, 2011. One of my experiments for this year was growing vegetables in straw bales. It is a pretty simple concept. Instead of planting in the dirt, you add a layer of dirt to the top of an aged straw bale and plant in that. This allows you to grow in areas with bad soil, lots of rocks, or other challenging garden situations. August 6, 2012 at 3:11 PM. You might try seeding the bales with mushroom spawn instead? Blue Feather Micro-Farm: June 2010

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The duckling we thought was a boy at hatching is actually a girl. Initially named Oscar because mom decided to brood inside of a garbage can on its side, the duckling will now be called Abby Cadabby. (Abby is another Sesame Street character.). Both duckweed and minnows are food a wild ducks thrives on. By providing as much natural food as possible to our animals, we are helping to keep them happy and healthy. Sunday, June 27, 2010. Blue Feather Micro-Farm: May 2010

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 7, 2010. 10 little ducklings all in a row. The final count is 10. Not a bad hatch rate considering we thought she only had 8 eggs! Saturday, May 1, 2010. If these ducklings are from some of the pure-bred Welsh Harlequin eggs, it looks like I have at least 2 boys. I will try to get a better count later today. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blue Feather Micro-Farm: August 2010

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 19, 2010. Egg recall good reason to grow your own. I have a mild chicken egg allergy. Fortunately being allergic to chicken eggs doesn't necessarily mean you are allergic to other types of eggs. That is one of the reasons I got in to raising ducks, and then recently, quail. I wanted fresh eggs without the risk of allergic reaction. Have a handle on the allergy front, my eggs are not contaminated. A total of 380 million eggs have been recalled since last week because of concerns they may ...

Blue Feather Micro-Farm: Need an excuse to start a garden?

http://bluefeatherfarm.blogspot.com/2012/04/need-excuse-to-start-garden.html

Thursday, April 5, 2012. Need an excuse to start a garden? If you have been pondering whether or not to start a garden, this news story might give you the extra push you need to break out the seed catalogs and place an order. World food prices are likely to rise for a third successive month in March, and could gain further beyond that, with expensive oil and chronically low stocks of some key grains putting food inflation firmly back on the economic agenda." Farm Girl

Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Hi humans, Lily here. I have a request to make. My human parents brought a new sister home four months ago, and I would like to return her. Who can I talk to about this? At first she may seem okay. But don't be fooled: It takes her all of 0.2 seconds to become annoying again. All she wants to do is play. Luckily, not only me. But it's all day everyday! We are all exhausted. I need a break. I miss the old times when it was just me and my parents. My mom took me everywhere. And i...
