Things I removed from my son’s winter coat before washing, a list | Fast approaching middle age
https://fastapproachingmiddleage.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/things-i-removed-from-my-sons-winter-coat-before-washing-a-list
Fast approaching middle age. Be your own hero. Things I removed from my son’s winter coat before washing, a list. Filthy, crusted stiff inside-out dress socks. Enough dirt to make an anthill. Ritz crackers, unwrapped. Frosted Mini Wheats, again, no wrapper. Half of a striped candy cane, unwrapped and partially sucked (it had to be pried off the fleece lining). A long, and quite striking, gold and silver necklace with lightning bolt charms that I bought to wear with one of my many black turtlenecks. Your ...
Dry skin relief | Fast approaching middle age

Fast approaching middle age. Be your own hero. You guys are probably so hip and crafty that you already know this: you can make your own body scrub. That stuff that costs $6-$30 and I have to wait until Christmas to get? Yeah, I made my own. Now who’s cool, not to mention smooth? We snuck in a few beach days before the temperature dropped again, so of course I got sunburned. I managed to cover my kids in sunscreen, and my upper half. My legs, not so much. They were toast. Mocha-Olive Oil body scrub.
Steven Raichlen, sexiest griller | Fast approaching middle age
https://fastapproachingmiddleage.wordpress.com/2011/06/09/steven-raichlen-sexiest-griller
Fast approaching middle age. Be your own hero. Steven Raichlen, sexiest griller. It started when he loosened the skin of the chicken with first one finger, then two, and finally slid all his fingers under the skin. Then he rubbed herbed butter between the skin and the flesh of the chicken and massaged it around. Before grilling, Raichlen made sure the grill was well lubricated with oil. You get the idea…or, maybe it’s just me? I’m okay with that, really. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. 3 Gently (...
My true self, revealed | Fast approaching middle age

Fast approaching middle age. Be your own hero. My true self, revealed. The Gay Girl in Damascus is a man, an American man. I have mixed feelings about this revelation. I was not a follower of that particular blog. But some folks have maintained an online correspondence with Gay Girl for five years. I would feel betrayed. I enjoy singing in the shower, watching the grass grow from the comfort of my hammock and speaking to dogs. I believe that coffee is essential. I feel very fortunate that all thi...Click...
Summer hiatus | Fast approaching middle age
https://fastapproachingmiddleage.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/summer-hiatus
Fast approaching middle age. Be your own hero. Well, I’m making it official. In order to devote more time to play, garden, read, make jam and write fiction, I’m taking a break from blogging. Looking ahead to the fall, I am considering changing the focus of this blog to homeschooling. This would achieve two goals: record-keeping for my personal homeschool and adding to the collective dissemination of information among homeschoolers. With gratitude, Kim. A recipe for happiness: sweat the small stuff | Mo's Blog
https://moander.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/a-recipe-for-happiness-sweat-the-small-stuff
A recipe for happiness: sweat the small stuff. When people say don’t sweat the small stuff, they mean don’t get all upset over little things that don’t really matter in the long run. That is certainly good advice, but I would add to it that. Small stuff can make you really really happy. Sometimes, when you least expect it . . . A charmingly ironic statement about modern technology, right? My kids kept bugging me to change it — I have a 1,001 ringtones app. And speaking of mirrors, if you are feeling real...
Severe clear | Mo's Blog
https://moander.wordpress.com/2011/09/12/severe-clear
One of the weird side effects of 9/11 for me was becoming much more aware of the weather this time of year. The incongruity of those terrifying events happening on such a gorgeous “ severe clear. 8221; day will probably remain with me for the rest of my life. Beautiful late summer days shouldn’t make me sad, but they do. Are there other people out there who love the look of laundry hanging on a line? Especially if it’s colorful, and there is a light breeze? September 12, 2011. Hello again, world! Rhonda ...

The Fifth Child, by Doris Lessing | Mo's Blog
https://moander.wordpress.com/2011/08/03/the-fifth-child-by-doris-lessing
The Fifth Child, by Doris Lessing. Was a freaky book. I can’t even remember the last time I read a book in a single day, but that’s what I did with this one yesterday. It went so fast that I never even had a chance to post it in my sidebar. And he is preternaturally strong. As he grows up he becomes increasingly violent and difficult to care for. His behavior has a negative effect on the entire family. The older kids spend as little time at home as they can, Harriet and David’s marriage...This is a book ...
Tattoos, pros & cons | Mo's Blog

Tattoos, pros & cons. Well I couldn’t think of a blessed thing to write about, so I went over and looked at the postaday prompts. Not without trepidation, because most of them I wouldn’t touch with a ten hundred foot pole. However, yesterday’s prompt. Was “would you ever get a tattoo” and, well, here you go:. The bad thing about having a tattoo is you can’t ever become a secret agent. Your tattoo blows your cover instantly. Remember what happened to James Bond in. Welcome to my life, tattoo! You are comm...

All posts by Mo. Steal Across the Sky. Well the reason I’m giving you this great big spoiler is because unfortunately the rest of the book did not deliver. There is SO MUCH you could do with a premise like that, but the story just devolved into an action thriller with totally stock characters and predictable twists. Very disappointing. This one, wow, where do I begin? Don’t remember how I stumbled across it, but… whoa! Or are a fan of George Saunders, you should totally read this. September 13, 2011.
Pet peeve: italicized block quotes | Mo's Blog
https://moander.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/pet-peeve-italicized-block-quotes
Pet peeve: italicized block quotes. I had already started drafting this post when the lovely folks at wordpress.com posed the question “ if you could change one thing about your theme what would it be? 8221; My answer applies not only to Twenty Ten but many other themes as well. If you’ve ever read a novel that uses italics to convey a character’s inner thoughts, you know what I’m talking about. The italics add weight —. Because “Italics are good to help set it off from the body text (and italic Ge...

June 2, 2015. 8220;Editing this film was tough because there’s very little dialogue, which is how scenes are structured, so the options are endless. It was a relief to find a scene with dialogue. One woman's exploration of the myths and realities of being fifty. And what happened next. Wednesday, 13 June 2012. A man I once worked for described me as: "the kind of person you could send off to find a dinosaur skeleton and know she would come back, swamp-muddied, bruised, battered and probably mightily pissed off: but with a T-Rex thighbone between her teeth.". This was in a reference letter. I took it as a compliment - well aware that it was double-edged. We to do about her? Yet, day-after-day, I h...

This past year has been a struggle — to say the least. So much of my life has turned out completely differently than I expected:. I was in a pretty serious, long-term relationship and, by all accounts, was headed towards marriage, but that was not the guy for me. Right That’s my life right now. We are called to be th...
