Feasting On Dimes: October 2008

http://feastingondimes.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2008. CIY - Cook-It-Yourself - Day 1 - chicken stock. There is no reason to buy expensive chicken broth (chicken stock) at the store. Large Stock Pot (preferably something heavy with a good ironclad base - mine is 3 gal.). Large Plastic (foodsafe) Container. Optional: fine strainer, coffee filter. Place pot ...

Feasting On Dimes: February 2009

http://feastingondimes.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 23, 2009. Red-Eye Gravy and Biscuits. Coffee is what makes gravy "Red-Eye Gravy" and I have always made "Red-Eye Gravy" instead of regular gravy to go with biscuits. There really isn't that much of a difference in taste, but I do like the color that the coffee gives to the gravy. It makes it look less institutional. Less like it came out of a box. This recipe will yield. WHAT YOU WILL NEED:. Medium non-stick saute pan (10"). Cutting board and knife. 1 - 2 TBS vegetable oil. Preheat oven ...

Thursday, November 20, 2008. I always have spaghetti. Sauce in my house and I NEVER buy anything in the jar (yuck! It is extremely easy to make and it lasts in the refrigerator for a week or so. It freezes quite well and freezer bags of it can be utilized for months to come. When I make this - I make a lot of it! The first couple of nights, Jen and I will have it with pasta and meatballs. After that, I might decide to make manicotti. Or a pizza, or meatball grinders, or chicken cattiatore. 4 TBS Olive Oil.

Feasting On Dimes: Jambalaya

http://feastingondimes.blogspot.com/2012/09/jambalaya.html

Tuesday, September 4, 2012. I don't know how "authentic" this recipe is, but this is how Shayla taught me how to cook Jambalaya when I was a kid and I haven't really changed the recipe much since I learned how to cook this dish 30 years ago. WHAT YOU WILL NEED:. Knife and cutting board. 3 TBS olive oil. 1 large red onion - coarsely chopped. 6 cloves garlic - minced. 4 celery ribs - coarsely chopped. 1 - 2 jalapeno peppers - pith and seeds removed - minced. 1/2 tsp. chili flakes (optional). Feasting on Fiction

Sunday, May 1, 2011. The Book Thief, final thoughts. In the book, The Four Agreements, we learn that the human mind is like fecund ground where seeds are continually being planted. The Bible states: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. I had outlined a few more posts for this book but alas my plans had to change...
