Thoughts and Experiences working for Conservation and Birds in Africa. Thursday, December 31, 2009. 2009 - from a personal perspective. After just having posted probably one of the most somber postings on my blog, I thought it would be appropriate to do a more personal review of the year that was 2009. The beautiful male at Nossob Camp, January 2009. We were quite surprised by all of them getting rid of most of their clothes to pose for the pictures though! However, their joy of life and excitement about...
FeatherRanger: What's with birders and sewage?
http://featherranger.blogspot.com/2009/12/whats-with-birders-and-sewage.html
Thoughts and Experiences working for Conservation and Birds in Africa. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. What's with birders and sewage? The thought of visiting such a facility generally fills most people with a feeling of revulsion and it is not included on the itinerary of too many other leisure activities that I know off. That is, unless you are seriously looking for you know what…. That was discovered at the Strandfontein sewage works near Cape Town, the American Purple Gallinule. Seemingly deriving a lo...

Birding beyond Sunset: June 2010
http://birdingbeyondsunset.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 6, 2010. NW Tanzania - Bukoba via Biharamulo to Rwanda. The road soon reverted to bush road again as I approached Biharamulo Game Reserve and the thought of a potential very long driving day ahead I tried not to stop to often. Not too dissimilar from the road I'd taken north at the start of my trip through Kamisi Game Reserve. The few sightings were good though with a couple of Common Kestrel. Dive-bombing an Augur Buzzard. And a Lizard Buzzard. Posted by Marcell Claassen. The migrant - M.

Birding beyond Sunset: December 2009
http://birdingbeyondsunset.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 4, 2009. Cairo and Dahab (Sinai). Birding in Cairo was pretty much only "drive-by" birding or what could be seen from the hotel but a fair amount of species was seen. Due to circumstances in Dahab I missed out on a desert safari so missed a load of the planned specials there. Staying on the island of Zagalek in Cairo, the most common birds were Hooded Crows, House Sparrows. With the occasional Laughing Dove. Around. One morning there were Yellow-vented Bulbuls. Visited the shoreline in f...

Birding beyond Sunset: Beach with a Twitch
http://birdingbeyondsunset.blogspot.com/2014/12/beach-with-twitch.html

You’ll find some holiday communities spread out along miles and miles of lovely beaches, interspersed only with large rock outcrops and points. Although some beaches are a higher risk for swimmers, it’s extremely tranquil albeit if out of season. I visited this area during mid-October 2014, in particular the beaches of Punta Negra. Roost - at times probably well over a 1,000 birds. Whilst there are ma...
