June 26, 2010, 7:50 am. You know you’ve reached the end of your dinner in China when the waitress marches over and lowers a large plate of watermelon on the table. This is your dessert — no cakes, no fortune cookies. You’ll get watermelon and that’s it. That’s why I love Charmant, a Taiwanese-style restaurant in the French Concession. I’ve never tried an actual meal here but have visited after many a meal to enjoy a good post-dinner Chinese treat. The winner? You guys don’t do this? June 22, 2010, 9:25 am.

When life hands you lemons, make bubble tea. March 30, 2010, 4:36 pm. The act of queuing, lining up, standing single file whatever you call it — seems to be an underappreciated art form here. Anybody who’s ever had an old lady squeeze in front of them at a baozi stand or missed a train because of overambitious metro pushers knows that first come does not necessarily mean first serve. The answer was obvious: bubble tea. Plus, their tapioca balls are tiny! Location: Errr’ywhere. (Seriously). Cost: 5 12 RMB.

Spice Up Your Life: Yu Xin. April 29, 2010, 12:14 pm. If you’re a spicy fan, don’t miss this place. If not, avoid at all costs as every dish carries a punch to it. 60 RMB/per person for a ridiculously large amount of food and drinks. Location: 3/F Zhaoshangju Plaza, 333 Chengdu Bei Lu, Nanjing Xi Lu near Weihai Lu (成都北路338号招商局广场3楼, 近威海路). There’s an App for that. April 22, 2010, 8:15 am. Stumbled upon this incredible survival guide for eating in China: How to Order Chinese Food. It’s got it all! A Shangh...

Feed Me, Seymour. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Sugar Pie Pumpkin Bread. October 14, 2015. For years and years now, I’ve used canned pumpkin. There’s no shame in it, really. So long as you aren’t using pumpkin pie filling, canned pumpkin can be ok. It is easy, it is convenient, it is delicious. Canned pumpkin is a-okay. Until you’ve tried real pumpkin puree made from an actual pumpkin. Add it to this pumpkin bread for the most amazing pumpkin bread you’ll ever have. 2 tsp baking soda.

Lindsey Mills, hand-to-mouth. Monday, May 16, 2011. I'm back this season with a change of direction. Although I am still an avid vegan home cook, my enthusiasm for documenting the results waned over the course of my year spent blogging consistently. Posting in 2011 has been sporadic. I've more and more felt compelled to share things other than recipes, but aside from the spring mix. And in the spirit of summer, here's a burst of seasonal inspiration. Top row: Unknown Mortal Orchestra. I love this band!
