The Blackwood River runs just in front of the cottages and is visible from all four cottage front decks. During the wet season the heavy rains cause the water levels to periodically breaks its banks and overflow onto the floodplain below the cottages, filling the billabongs which makes for a stunning visual display. Fern Gully Treesit Village
We had less than two weeks to go before the expiration of Fern Gully's Timber Harvest Plan, or THP, and the Pacific Lumber Company extended it further. The original plan started in 2001 and would have ended in October 2006, but will last another year. Gully could possibly be extended two more times. We are all very sad, but remain determined to see this extraordinary grove protected. Gully is part of THP #01-446, and is located on a steep slope behind Garfield Elementary School.
