Musings of a fiddler in love with fiddle music. Tuesday, November 11, 2008. A visit from Tony DeMarco. Why don't Italian's like Jehovah's witnesses? We don't like any witnesses," joked Tony DeMarco. To a laughing crowd at the Flynn Space. This was one of many jokes and stories Tony shared at his CD Release party this past Sunday night. The famous New York Irish fiddler celebrated the release of his latest CD The Sligo Indians. To a packed house on November 9th. Posted by Katrina VanTyne.

http://fiddletalk.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Musings of a fiddler in love with fiddle music. Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Okay, I have to admit, I haven't been playing much lately. Maybe it's because the weather has been absolutely gorgeous here and there is so much to do outside instead of practicing. So needless to say I have yet to research any tunes or players as I said I would in my last blog entry. I'm sure you were waiting on the edge of your seat, so I'm sorry to disappoint you. Posted by Katrina VanTyne. Friday, August 8, 2008. In Burlington ...

http://fiddletalk.blogspot.com/2009/01/dont-let-your-instrument-get-winter.html
Musings of a fiddler in love with fiddle music. Wednesday, January 14, 2009. Don't let your instrument get the winter blues! Pegs are popping, strings are out of tune, and cracks are becoming the “in” thing these days. This can only mean one thing; it’s winter in Vermont! While winter for us means warm fires, snow capped mountains and lots of hot chocolate, winter for your fiddle can bring on all sorts of problems that can make playing a daunting task. Signs that your instrument is too dry:. I recently c...
Fiddle Talk: July 2008

Musings of a fiddler in love with fiddle music. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Summer tuning your instrument. My fiddle is a French instrument called Renoux built in 1936. She's got the most beautiful voice but is very picky when it comes to the weather. Living in Vermont can make keeping her in tune quite a challenge. You can find the peg goop in any violin shop and possibly any music shop (though I haven't actually looked in other music shops). It's pretty cheap and can make a world of difference. It starts o...

The recording below is from the Stockholm session founded by West Virginia old-time fiddle, banjo and guitar player Rachel Eddy. The tune was composed by another Virginia fiddler, Jim Childress, and named for his wife who was born in Malvern, Arkansas. Jim originally recorded it on the 2004 CD. Happy Wednesday Oldtime Jam, Stockholm, Sweden. Is available from Jim Childress’s website.
